Episode 075: Barbarian (2022)

In this episode, we dig into the mailbag of listener suggestions seeking some horror to keep the dwindling flames of our Halloween passion alive. This leads us to check out Zach Cregger's directorial debut Barbarian from 2022. Heads up that this is a film where the less you know going in the better, so if you haven't seen it and have made it this far without being spoiled, we highly suggest trying it before delving into our discussion. Jason celebrates the film's thematic elements while Dustin struggles to reconcile the elements he loved with those that gave him a few hangups. But before all that, we spend some extra time dishing on the VHS franchise and its latest film, V/H/S/85, which seems like a stark improvement to us over the last few entries. And so much more!

Special thanks to Jessica for suggesting we check this one out. Got a movie you champion? A hidden gem you think needs more love? Just want to see more discussion on a particular film? We want to check out the movies you suggest to us. Write in at [email protected] or contact us on your favorite form of social media and shoot us a movie recommendation.

Episode 077: Blow Out (1981)

In this episode, we continue our exploration of movies about making movies. This time Jason's pick brings us back to the highly stylized world of Brian De Palma as we check out Blow Out from 1981. Between geeking out over all the gear porn and audio engineering, we also spend a lot of time highlighting the many cinematic features and real world incidents that fed in as inspiration for the film. But before all that, we set our sights on some recent releases. Jason hits the theater to talk Eli Roth's Grindhouse trailer finally being realized and then heaps praise for Toho's newest stab at a Godzilla flick. Meanwhile, Dustin brings a tale of two animated projects and unfortunately has to level some harsh criticism of the new Scott Pilgrim anime. And so much more!
