Geektown Radio - TV News, Interviews & UK TV Air Dates

This week's Geektown Radio podcast sees an ill Gray crawl from his sickbed to join the show and discuss the latest films, games, all the UK TV premiere date info, and US TV news. Amongst other things we chat about 'Fleabag', 'Line Of Duty', 'Dead Pixels' & Project Blue Book', and we also have an exclusive interview with Supervising Sound Editor, Trevor Gates.

With a background in music; playing piano and writing from a young age, Trevor Gates has always had an affinity for sound and sonic arrangement. Growing up in the San Francisco Bay area and Portland, Oregon, Trevor decided to take a leap of faith to pursue a career in sound. After attending The Art Institute of California Los Angeles and earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Audio Production, Trevor started working as an engineer and producer with an established R&B music producer. Trevor was next presented an opportunity to create sound for film. Within six years, Trevor has creatively participated in the soundscape of over 100 films.

Most recently, Trevor has been working with Jordan Peele on the smash hit multi-award winning 'Get Out', and his latest critically acclaimed horror/thriller 'Us'. In addition, Trevor recently won the Emmy for his sound editing on the Golden Globe-winning series 'Atlanta' starring Donald Glover, and you can also hear his chilling soundscapes on Netflix’s 'The Haunting of Hill House'.

Geektown Radio 197: The Umbrella Academy Cast, MCM Birmingham Comic Con, Film News, UK TV News & Air Dates!

This week on the Geektown Radio podcast Bex from TristaBytes returns to the show (with all her limbs intact for once!) to discuss the latest films, games, all the UK TV premiere date info, and US TV news. We also report on our weekend at MCM Birmingham Comic Con, plus we have an interview with Tom Hopper & Emmy Raver-Lampman, aka Luther & Allison from Netflix's 'The Umbrella Academy'.

On the same day in 1989, forty-three infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven are adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves, a billionaire industrialist, who creates The Umbrella Academy and prepares his "children" to save the world. But not everything went according to plan. In their teenage years, the family fractured and the team disbanded. Now, the six surviving thirty-something members reunite upon the news of Hargreeve’s passing. Luther, Diego, Allison, Klaus, Vanya and Number Five work together to solve a mystery surrounding their father's death. But the estranged family once again begins to come apart due to their divergent personalities and abilities, not to mention the imminent threat of a global apocalypse.

Tom Hopper you will know from shows such as 'Black Sails' where he played Billy Bones, 'Merlin' when he donned the armour of Sir Percival, 'Game of Thrones' which saw him star as Dickon Tarly, and, of course, 'The Umbrella Academy' where he plays Luther/Spaceboy.

Allison in 'Umbrella Academy' is Emmy Raver-Lampman's first major tv series role, however, she is also an accomplished musical theatre actress. She previously starred as Angelica Schuyler the smash hit musical Hamilton along with also starring in shows such as Hair, Jekyll & Hyde, and Wicked.

On the Geektown Radio podcast this week I am joined by Darryl from Hollywood News Source, to chat about Walker Stalker Con, the latest tv and film news, and all the UK TV premiere date info. We also have an exclusive interview with Lawson Demming, co-founder of visual effects company, Barnstorm VFX.

Barnstorm VFX is a boutique effects house specialising in high-quality digital effects, design, and production. They are the visual effects company behind shows such as 'Silicon Valley' and 'Room 104', and 'Get Shorty', along with working on series such as 'Outlander', 'Fargo', 'Lost' and 'The Gifted'. Barnstorm most recently worked on Amazon's brilliant 'The Man in the High Castle', which tells the story of a dystopian America dominated by Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan.

Lawson Demming, a co-founder of Barnstorm VFX and VFX Supervisor for 'The Man in the High Castle', joins us to discuss the amount of historical research they do for the show. WARNING - there are some Season 3 spoilers in the interview if you haven't caught up. He also chats about the amazing 'Silicon Valley' and creating some of their VFX shots, from robot monkey arms and virtual server rooms, to "Pipey", the Piped Piper onscreen "help".
