Are you a basketball fan? You definitely have to watch “The Last Dance.” It focuses on Michael Jordan’s last season. It really is a history of his entire time with the Chicago Bulls.

Jordan was the best player to ever play the game. 6 Championships with one team proves it. Still, he never had a 100 point game. Only one player ever accomplished that.

Wilt Chamberlain. March 2, 1962.

Malcolm Gladwell did a great job of “deep diving” that game. There were a few remarkable things.

There were no 3 point shots back then.

Wilt “upped” his fundamentals.

It wasn’t 360 dunks. It wasn’t 3 pointers.

Fundamentals win games.

Fundamentals also make great marketing and, in return, great business.

In this episode, I talk about the fundamentals of marketing and how it can lead to a “100 Point Game."

What’s the “100 point game” for your business?

Increased profits?

Market share?

Bigger clients?

You should decide that. Then do everything to “up” your fundamentals to get to the 100 points.

One other thing. Fundamentals aren’t sexy. That was Wilt the Stilt’s problem.

I know it holds me back. It’s probably holding you back too.

You’ve probably read/heard me talk about John Wooden, the greatest college coach of all time. Everyone started by learning to tie their shoes properly. Not sexy. People made fun of him. They couldn’t argue with 10 National Championships.

Make a commitment to the fundamentals of your marketing. Don’t worry about what anyone thinks. It’s what makes champions.

In this week of the Garlic Marketing Show, Ian sits down with freelance portrait and healthcare photographer Karen Haberberg to discuss the importance of using photography to tell a story and how she has given a voice to many children with rare genetic conditions and their families through her work.

Since getting her first camera at 13 years old, Karen always realized she had a passion for telling people’s stories. Influenced by her own family’s experience dealing with the passing of her older brother, who passed from a rare genetic disease, Karen realized she wanted to use her skills to help raise awareness about families in similar situations and give them the chance to have their voices heard.

Over her career as a professional photographer, her work has been featured in numerous publications, such as The New York Times, The Daily News, and Huffington Post. After publishing two photo books that include real stories from people she encountered, who have genetic conditions, she continues to photograph with the intent to have her message heard and to educate her audience.
