When proof of the rape could not be verified, she was then imprisoned, along with her rapists for 8 months for sexual relations outside of marriage, which is law in the UAE, sparking worldwide outrage and criticism. On April, 16, 1996 a man entered a police station to report that he accidentally killed his girlfriend after an argument in the bathtub. He asserted she inhaled water and drowned, but that he tried to resuscitate her and was unsuccessful. However, when police arrived to their home in Manchester, in England, they found the 17-year-old’s body to have over 150 injuries and the most extensive trauma they had ever seen. This is the story of Kelly Anne Bates.

On December 9, 1986 a 24-year-old woman was brutally raped, beaten and strangled while walking home from a friend’s house in Portsmouth, in Hampshire, in the South of England. An 18-year-old navy sailor was convicted of her murder but 16 years later DNA would exonerate him of the crime, marking the first time in UK history that occurred. But sadly, her real murderer has still not been identified. This is the story of Linda Cook.

Amanda Todd was just 15-years-old when she committed suicide on October 10, 2012. She had been the victim of relentless cyberbullying due to an older man taking advantage of her and convincing her to show her breasts online. That man then distributed the sexual photos of Amanda to her schoolmates, instigating the bullying that would come. She created a video and posted it to YouTube, showing flashcards that explained her story just before her death, which went viral and highlighted the growing issues of cyberbullying. This is her story.

Her case went to trial but she was quickly portrayed as “asking for it” and her name was smeared in the media. While the men who raped her were eventually found guilty, the damage was done and the young mother left with her family to another city. She would die just 4 years later in a car accident, which would once again become focused on victim blaming. This is the story of Cheryl Araujo.

On March 15, 1925 a young woman was abducted by a man that had become infatuated with her and was insistently trying to date her. She was repeatedly raped and tortured for days before she attempted suicide by poisoning herself and he finally brought her home, claiming she had been in a car accident. Believing he was untouchable as the leader of the Indiana chapter of the Ku Klux Klan, he was soon shocked to learn she was able to give a full statement before her death and he was tried and convicted of his crimes. This tragic event ultimately led to the demise of the second incarnation of the KKK in the United States. This is the story of Madge Oberholtzer.

On the morning of June 13, 1977 a camp counsellor was walking to the showers area at a Girl Scout camp in Mayes County, Oklahoma, when she stumbled upon the body of one of the campers. It was soon discovered that all three young girls who had been sharing tent #8 had been viciously murdered and left on the trail. A suspect was eventually tried for the murders and was acquitted of all charges but new DNA evidence suggests he may have been guilty all along. This the story of Lori Lee Farmer, Doris Denise Milner and Michele Heather Guse, also known as the Oklahoma Girl Scout Murders.
