Episode 16: Understanding Children’s Burns
Show Notes:
At just 15-months old, Michelle’s son Charlie pulled a pan of boiling water over himself at their family home and sustained burns to 10% of his body.
This episode tells the story of Charlie’s accident, treatment and recovery. You will hear details of Charlie’s burns injuries and of his mum Michelle’s guilt because of the accident. You will also hear from Sue from Children’s Burns Trust who talks about what happens if your child arrives at A&E with a skin burn and some of the different treatment paths available.
This is not an easy listen but it is ultimately a story of hope and recovery. Charlie is now a normal, thriving teenager, but the consequences of his accident, and he and his family’s journey of healing, continue to this day.
Awareness is key to prevention and we thank Michelle for her bravery and openness in talking about Charlie’s accident.
