01/16/20 • 66 min
Hello and welcome to the EQUUS Film & Arts Fest Podcast, the premiere program for horse lovers who have a passion for horses in film, art and literature.
In this episode, Lisa and Julianne talk about Bruce Anderson, Julianne's partner, and how the two of them became involved with the festival in 2015. From submitting a trailer for their documentary, "The Edge: Bruce Anderson-Natural Humanship," directed by Trinidadian filmmakers James O'Connor and Dylan Quesnel of The Art of Storytelling, to hosting an annual EQUUS Tour Stop in their hometown of Camden, SC, Bruce and Julianne have spent a good amount of time on the festival team. Here they discuss the film, as well as other film projects such as the Spotlight Rescue Series, produced with Julianne's students in the Fairfield County School District in partnership with the festival.
Julianne and Lisa also discuss the upcoming 5th annual spring EQUUS Film and Arts Fest Tour Stop in Camden, SC on April 17-19. You'll hear what it takes to plan and organize a tour stop and how this city has come together for the past four years to welcome the visiting filmmakers, authors and artists and provide exciting opportunities for equine and film lovers alike. The tour stop is sponsored by The Marley Project in partnership with The City of Camden, The Arts Center of Kershaw County and Camden's vintage Little Theatre. Meet the Herd: Conversations with Thundering Hooves
In this episode, Lisa and Julianne discuss the non-profit 501 (c)(3) Thundering Hooves. During the EQUUS Film and Arts Fest at the Kentucky Horse Park, Julianne speaks with Founder, Neta Ryne, as well as award-winning singer/songwriter Lynny Prince and Chief Matthew Black Eagle Man, both musicians and supporters of Thundering Hooves. From the films, Their Last Ride, 4 The Horses and Saddle of Hope, to presenting events across they country, Neta and the rest of her organization provide much needed information about horse slaughter and other issues for the horses in today's society.
Excerpt from Thundering Hooves social media campaign:
“Due to where I live and work I am faced with the reality of horse slaughter every day!! When working on Thundering Hooves film projects ...photos of slaughter horses that I took... are what I see across my screen and I am reminded of how they suffered! These images never leave my mind’s eye ...I go to bed every night with a great sadness in my heart!
Being a voice for the slaughter bound horses, burros and mules is not easy and becomes more difficult as time goes by knowing that nothing has changed and they continue to suffer! Thundering Hooves has proven to be a successful outreach program by providing a platform to be their voice! We have traveled the country with films and special events celebrating and honoring the horse to draw people in to educate and inform them on the facts on horse slaughter and inspire them to take action, whatever that might be ... for the HORSES!!”
~ Neta Rhyne
