1. Want To Start a Side Hustle? How to Build A Community and Get Brand Partnerships with Teri and Sarah, founder of Females Who Side Hustle
Employee To Boss: Entrepreneurship, Side Hustles, and Business Growth Tips from Experts
12/07/21 • 53 min
This week’s guests (and the first guests on the Employee To Boss Podcast!!!!) are Teri and Sarah, founders of Females Who Side Hustle, a community for like-minded motivated females to connect, feel support, and gain resources. Their mission is to create a space for meaningful connections through open conversations and shared experiences.
In this episode, we talk all about the struggles that entrepreneurs face, how to tell your friends and family about your side hustle, and how to get brand partnerships!
Why is there such a shame about having a side hustle? Having a side hustle should not be a hush-hush situation. It can literally feel scarier to tell your boss or your mom about your side hustle than telling a random stranger on the internet.
Just because you have a side hustle does not mean that you want to leave your job (most of the time) you just have different cups to fill.
The vibes between Sarah and Teri are unreal and they have such a cool “coming together” story. Not only are they are 10 years apart in age, but Sarah was also once Teri’s post-grad student. Once the duo became colleagues, they really connected and decided to start a business.
Teri started her first side hustle 10+ years ago and after being on maternity leave, she felt super alone in business. She wanted a partner-in-side hustle, reached out to Sarah, and after a coffee date, Females Who Side Hustle was born. They both wanted something more than just their 9-5. They wanted to express themselves creatively and wanted to create a space for women to build their network across industries and find conversations that inspire them along the way.
The goal is to bring more females to the table, ditch competition, and encourage all to lift each other up and collaborate. While normalizing the struggles entrepreneurs face in doing it
all between business and life.
You should tell people about your side hustle, it is impressive.
They started with just a few hundred followers, and since their launch in 2019, they have grown to a community of over 10k, organically!
Topics in this episode:
Comparison is death to your business
How to find a business partner
How to tell people about your side hustle because it can be scary
How to get brand partnerships
Your Challenge this week:
Just start - get that Instagram, get that email address
Be consistent and just go with the flow including the ups and downs
Lead with your side hustle. When someone asks you want you to do, lead with what you are passionate about

0. How to Become The Boss of Your Life! About Your Host, Hayleigh Hayhurst
Employee To Boss: Entrepreneurship, Side Hustles, and Business Growth Tips from Experts
12/07/21 • 17 min
This episode is all about how excited I am to be launching the Employee To Boss Podcast! This podcast has been in the works for *a while* now, and I am just thrilled to be sharing these empowering interviews with world-changing entrepreneurs! We talk all about how to start your own business, grow your business, and the wins and struggles they have experienced.
My name is Hayleigh Hayhurst and I am the owner of Espresso Podcast Production, a full-service podcast production agency specializing in Editing, Marketing, and Strategy!
My journey into podcasting started when I was in college and co-hosted a pro-wrestling podcast called Wrestling Winedown with my friend Lo. I graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in December 2019 with a BA in Journalism and Media Studies and a minor in Political Science and Film.
I started my business, Espresso Podcast Production, in June of 2020, just months after I moved to Seattle Washington in search of something new in life.
Needless to say, I love talking, I love communicating, I love everything that podcasting encapsulates. And so that is why I'm so excited to be launching my very own podcast. I have helped my clients launch, grow, and monetize their podcasts, and now it is time for me to have some fun of my own!
I think of podcasting as an outlet to express yourself. And one of the big things that I want to stress in this podcast is you don't have to leave your 9 to 5, you don't have to start your own business. But you should be doing something that brings you joy outside of your 9 to 5.
If your whole life is your corporate job, it's going to lead to burnout. You're going to get bored. You're going to get annoyed. You're going to want something more.
That's why side hustles are so popular right now, honestly, you can make a side hustle out of anything. You could make a side hustle of watching dogs on the weekend, you can make a side hustle of selling ebooks, selling sports cards, really, anything out there can be a side hustle. There are so many different things that you can do. And my favorite is podcasting.
I am 24, a dog mom, a Taurus, and a podcast enthusiast.
I am so excited for you to tune into this podcast every Tuesday for a new interview episode with an amazing entrepreneur. You will be able to find the transcripts on my website, www.espressopodcastproduction.com, and all the links will be in the detailed show notes.
I cannot wait to connect with you!

66. Bridging the Gap Between Strategy and Design With Sasha Monique, Owner of INICIO Creative Agency
Employee To Boss: Entrepreneurship, Side Hustles, and Business Growth Tips from Experts
05/16/23 • 31 min
Sasha has been working in the field for over 12 years. Her career started in retail development and merchandising after obtaining her degree from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles. Her career started in visual merchandising and quickly took her to design retail spaces all across the country.
She was helping companies land HUGE sales partnerships with big-name companies and also teaching 250+ retailers how to utilize the power of merchandising and visual storytelling — but once she got burnout, she decided it was time to move to freelance.
Since then, she's helped numerous businesses and companies fine-tune their branding, get clear on their marketing strategies, improve their web traffic, and more. Ultimately she's helped them grow and scale by finding their unique attributes and building upon that. It’s something she does best, find the uncommon denominator within their industry and turn it into their greatest strength.
Action Steps:
- Audit your social media - can people tell who you are, what you do, and how you do it right away?
- Check out your branding to see if the colors and fonts are matching and aesthetic
- Ask yourself - how can you better communicate what you do?

8. Avoid Sales Burnout, Stop Dreaming + Start Planning to Succeed with Sales Coach & Consultant Jonathan Schmitz, My Leadership Legacy
Employee To Boss: Entrepreneurship, Side Hustles, and Business Growth Tips from Experts
01/18/22 • 45 min
In today’s episode, I speak with Jonathan Schmitz, a sales coach, consultant, and corporate sales trainer based out of Houston, Texas. After a 10 year, Hall of Fame career in direct sales with the Cutco Corporation and Vector Marketing, he now helps others grow and scale their sales processes sustainably, and in a way that prevents long-term burnout and turnover.
We talk about the emotional distinction between yourself and your product. Because rejection is just a part of sales.
We talk about scheduling fun. Each week, plan around the things that make you the happiest because it makes YOU happy, but also gives you the power to say no to the things that will not push you forward.
Reward yourself along the way. Life is too short to grind for 20+ years.
He teaches his clients to schedule through a methodology called Big Rock, Small Rock, Sand. This is one of the most beautiful analyses I have ever heard because it is game-changing! No matter how busy you are, there is always time for a beer with a friend. This analogy will really help you decide what is making you happy, what is pushing you forward, and what holds you back. Scheduling is everything.
In this episode:
- How to plan in life for what matters
- How to reach your goals by scheduling for success
- How to prioritize yourself
Your Challenge this week:
1. Start scheduling to succeed.
2. Be 1% better today than you were yesterday. Give yourself grace.
3. Stop comparing your year 1 to someone else’s year 30.
