Drew and Sam are actors. They haven’t won any Academy Awards yet, and neither of them is in line to be the new James Bond (sorry Sam), but between them they do have over half a century’s worth of experience in the industry. Many months ago a combination of boredom, significantly reduced work opportunities (thanks pandemic!) and overactive and under-stimulated imaginations inspired them to create a podcast, and somehow they’re still at it. Join the Drewling Samantics chaps every Sunday (or download and listen later) as they give an entertaining insight into how their industry works - from modelling to voiceover, theatre to film, and television to streamed media, the gents talk about all areas of performance artistry, giving an insider view that is sometimes humorous, often eye-opening or poignant, and at times just downright strange! With regular guest appearances and the odd special ‘on location’ segment, Drewling Samantics brings something unique and fresh to the world of podcasts from two normal blokes, working in a rather abnormal industry.

Downtime
After thirteen weeks Drew and Sam have reached the end of their sixth season of Drewling Samantics - well not quite the end as they certainly have much to discuss and pick apart before they leave us with their ever popular highlight shows.
As always there is plenty of news and shared opinions, as well as a rare splash of politics to kick off this week’s discussions. Events, decisions affecting the lives of performers and creatives, and a look at those being rewarded for their work and contributions make up some of today’s chat, then it’s on to the serious subject of surviving the business. It should never be underestimated how important it is to take care of oneself both physically and mentally, and how finding a little calm in the middle of the storm, whatever form that may take, is essential.
The boys even have a few final surprises to close out the season with, but if you want to know more you’ll have to join them in this latest episode of Drewling Samantics.

Into The Darkness
Drew and Sam certainly do travel a lot for work, but once a week wherever they happen to be and whatever they may be busy doing, they always manage to get together for an episode of DrewlingSamantics - and this week is certainly no different. Drew is at home, but Sam is off on tour, and, as Drew keenly observes, is in slightly familiar surroundings to earlier in the year.
As per usual catching up with the news and recent headlines from the world of stage and screen is first priority, before moving on to matters of a darker nature, as Sam’s current role and rehearsals that are the basis of this week’s episode. Although both Drew and Sam are always pleased to be working, they are mindful of the demands certain roles make on a performer when stepping out of their comfort zone. There are sometimes parts and subject matter that require a performer to face uncomfortable material and personalities, and today’s episode sparks deep and honest conversation where Drew and Sam share their thoughts and working methods when dealing with these sensitive issues. Industry professional or audience member it’s another fascinating look at an area of an always intriguing vocation.

OAP (Old Age Performer)
Drew and Sam are back and on top form again this week with another episode of chat and news from the entertainment world. Kicking off they delve in to the longevity of some of the industry’s favourite actors, discussing the drive that keeps these individuals motivated, and the skills and stamina they possess that never seem to diminish, despite the many years of work and pleasure they have given. Retirement is not an option or even a consideration for these performers, and they certainly prove that you don’t need to “teach an old dog new tricks”.
Then, just when you thought Drew would never reveal the secret he’s been keeping to himself all these weeks, the unthinkable happens - he is finally able to spill the beans! And with the more expected but equally welcome revelation of another new guest next week, it seems in this episode the treats just keep coming, so join the chaps once again, in the wonderful world of Drewling Samantics.

Seeing Double
The boys at Drewling Samantics have always endeavoured to look on the positive side of life, despite its ups and downs. This week proved incredibly sad for the whole nation with the passing of our much beloved Queen, but true to her philosophy and the message she always tried to project, the theatre community, along with many other businesses and the public, carried on. Performers and audiences alike managed to continue, enjoying both sides of the world of entertaining, while remembering her fondly and paying a fitting tribute.
Sharing lighter news from the business and new developments for various sectors of the industry, in today’s show our podcasting pair also bring us some rather revealing content. After teasing listeners and viewers in previous episodes, Drew and Sam have more to tell about the projects they have been keeping under wraps. Drew is still only able to tell us a little bit about his latest project, but there are fascinating details from Sam on how he has researched, developed and created his most recent roles, and some famous actors who have also undertaken the same challenge on their own acting journeys.
Another week, another top quality outing from everyone’s favourite co-hosts, so sit back and enjoy!

S06E04 - Theatrical Therapy

Theatrical Therapy
The famous phrase tells us “laughter is the best medicine”, and it is equally true that theatre and entertainment can help in many ways when it come to improving the lives of those who need an extra bit of positivity, or are suffering in some way.
Drew and Sam’s second guest of Season Six is David Bain - a man deeply involved in and passionate about theatre, bringing the hidden plight of others to light, and helping people to heal. The unique shows he has written are designed primarily to give necessary exposure to the serious subject of mental health, but beyond using theatre to open this world and publicise it more, Dave also successfully uses his creations to manage a delicate juggling act of entertaining and informing.
Combining his experience as an actor, musician, writer, and producer with being a practising psychotherapist, results in his work being not only well crafted and presented, but vital and hugely appreciated, and Dave’s ability to find humour in just the right places while never losing the gravitas or impact of the serious topics he addresses has earned him and his productions extremely positive responses. So join Drew, Sam and Dave in this latest Drewling Samantics episode, for conversation that is sometimes serious, sometimes light hearted, and always interesting and entertaining.
