Drew and Sam are actors. They haven’t won any Academy Awards yet, and neither of them is in line to be the new James Bond (sorry Sam), but between them they do have over half a century’s worth of experience in the industry. Many months ago a combination of boredom, significantly reduced work opportunities (thanks pandemic!) and overactive and under-stimulated imaginations inspired them to create a podcast, and somehow they’re still at it. Join the Drewling Samantics chaps every Sunday (or download and listen later) as they give an entertaining insight into how their industry works - from modelling to voiceover, theatre to film, and television to streamed media, the gents talk about all areas of performance artistry, giving an insider view that is sometimes humorous, often eye-opening or poignant, and at times just downright strange! With regular guest appearances and the odd special ‘on location’ segment, Drewling Samantics brings something unique and fresh to the world of podcasts from two normal blokes, working in a rather abnormal industry.

Riding High
Season Four has barely begun and already Drew and Sam are welcoming their first guest! Yes, today the chaps are joined by the fabulous Jamie Riding - a young actor with a great future and a fresh presence in the industry. As a performer Jamie has his eyes fondly on the past, and specialises in the traditions of two not totally unrelated theatrical disciplines.
When he’s not delighting audiences as a pantomime dame, Jamie is normally found capturing and captivating new young audiences as Punch and Judy puppeteer “Professor JR”. He tells the chaps about honing his skills with advice and support from some big names in the business, and how he strongly believes you should never pass up an opportunity! Following an illustrious line of performers before him, he loves that he is part of a time-honoured institution, but also leading a new vanguard of actors and creatives who are keeping these traditions alive and breathing new life into them.
Delighting in his work and with an infectious joy, Jamie is an actor, storyteller and performer with so much to give and share, so sit back and enjoy his visit to Drewling Samantics!

Didn’t See That Coming
Well Drew and Sam are really throwing a few surprises into the mix this season as in this episode they are unexpectedly united to do an in-person recording!
It really is a nice surprise to see them back on the sofa together, drinks in hand and banter at the ready, and to keep the theme of unpredictability going, in this episode of Drewling Samantics the boys’ discussion centres around unanticipated events that can impact a show or performance.
Drew and Sam have talked about and been visited by understudies, they have laughed over mishaps during performances, and have deliberated over things that could be predicted or coped with, however there are unforeseen circumstances that cannot be planned for, or even considered, that can alter a show or the production - and sometimes even the performers themselves! Some are funny, some are more serious, and some are just down-right weird! But whatever the occurrence, the show should, and does, go on...

S06E11 - Into The Darkness

Into The Darkness
Drew and Sam certainly do travel a lot for work, but once a week wherever they happen to be and whatever they may be busy doing, they always manage to get together for an episode of DrewlingSamantics - and this week is certainly no different. Drew is at home, but Sam is off on tour, and, as Drew keenly observes, is in slightly familiar surroundings to earlier in the year.
As per usual catching up with the news and recent headlines from the world of stage and screen is first priority, before moving on to matters of a darker nature, as Sam’s current role and rehearsals that are the basis of this week’s episode. Although both Drew and Sam are always pleased to be working, they are mindful of the demands certain roles make on a performer when stepping out of their comfort zone. There are sometimes parts and subject matter that require a performer to face uncomfortable material and personalities, and today’s episode sparks deep and honest conversation where Drew and Sam share their thoughts and working methods when dealing with these sensitive issues. Industry professional or audience member it’s another fascinating look at an area of an always intriguing vocation.

S05E03 - Hocus Pocus, Blokes in Focus

Hocus Pocus, Blokes in Focus
Another eventful week has passed for the gents of Drewling Samantics, with both Drew and Sam having spent time out and about. The shorter half of our dynamic duo attended a premiere of his latest film at a rather grand and secretive location - and that’s secretive in more ways than one; while the lankier member of the team spent a very creative weekend at a photographic workshop run by previous podcast visitor. All this may seem quite cryptic, but never fear as the truth will be exposed (and don’t worry, that’s all the exposure there will be, that reference is in no way connected to the aforementioned photo-shoot!)
Reporting back on their outings, whilst being fun, proves to also be quite thought provoking, and in turn initiates some in depth discussion regarding dealing with rejection and the consequential lower points in their careers – something that is sadly rather familiar to almost all actors and creatives. The mood isn’t all doom and gloom though, and of course the serious chat is brightened by the usual silliness, some obligatory mickey-taking, and even a podcasting staple masquerading as a dessert! Well if that doesn’t make you intrigued enough to tune in, then quite simply nothing will!

Feeling Firsty
Drewling Samantics is back! Season Five has arrived and Drew and Sam are incredibly excited for what is to come over the next few months.
But, before launching headlong into the new season proper, the boys take the opportunity to look at what exactly the future does hold, and with the promise of more recordings from “on the road” at events, outings and shows, and of course the usual top selection of visiting artists and industry experts, it certainly sounds like we’re in for a treat in Season Five.
On top of that, our hosts discuss how Drewling Samantics fans have even more opportunity to be involved this season, and how they are sharing “creative control”, so this could be the moment you’ve been waiting for! Add in a little bit of tidying up of loose ends from Season Four and this really is a great opening episode for both long-time listeners and newcomers alike.
So join Drew and Sam for another season, and then remember to go back and catch up with any episodes you may have missed or simply haven’t had the chance to experience yet. Watch out World - Drewling Samantics is back!

S03E06 - Stairway to Heaven

Stairway to Heaven
The best theatrical productions are often inspired by real life occurrences, and this week’s guests Anthony Merryweather and Emma Woodhouse have an incredible true tale to tell in their brand new musical, ‘The Truth Stops Here’. The tragic story certainly isn’t common knowledge, but along with the third member of the production team Nick Paterson, Anthony and Emma have created a brilliant and powerful show to make this little-known yet shocking event considerably more main-stream.
Drewling Samantics regulars may recall Sam being in the cast for the development workshop and subsequent concert performances of ‘The Truth Stops Here’ back in the summer, and he is returning to the cast as the musical moves on to a fully staged version, but before that happens he and Drew have the honour of chatting to its creators and finding out the origins of the piece, how those involved in the real disaster have been memorialised, and much more besides. Today’s show also has some exclusive recordings from the workshop, and gives subscribers a chance to win tickets to a performance of the show in January, so tune in or you might miss out!

Season One - Best of Drew & Sam
They think it’s all over... It is now! Sort of. Yes, famous sporting quotes aside, Drewling Samantics really has reached the last episode of its first season. Combining lockdowns with an abundance of laughter, Drew and Sam managed to create a whole podcast from what was essentially two mates chewing the fat and dealing with a very strange set of circumstances, whilst waiting to get back to work! So, now on the cusp of Season Two, who could blame the boys for taking a little time to look back over their favourite bits from the last three months or so. Join them in this episode as they revisit the best, weirdest and most memorable moments of Drewling Samantics Season One.
Far from being solely reflective, today’s show is also a handy taster episode for any new visitors to check out some of the first season highlights before subscribing and joining the ‘family’. For the regulars it’s an opportunity to keep an eye out and see if any of your favourite highlights feature, as well as remembering others you may have forgotten.
All being well life is slowly returning to where we left it, but Drew and Sam will not be leaving in a hurry, except to record another season of Drewling Samantics.

S13E07 - So... How did it go?
Drewling Samantics
06/01/25 • 40 min
So... How did it go?
It’s straight in in today’s episode, with a subject that is very much a regular topic of consideration for our podcasting pair - Drew and Sam are discussing auditions! A necessary evil some might say, but actors and performers spend a great deal of time trying to get, prepare for, and (with any luck!) nail them! Castings, test-shoots, auditions, all can be a bit of a headache and a trial, but equally sometimes are fun and can be enjoyed. Two main things are for certain however - the business can’t do without them, and performers can’t avoid them!
Whatever form they take, from in-person, workshop, open call, recall, self-tape, or other, every individual has their own methods of preparation and dealing with the almost inevitable nerves, the other auditionees, and the often intimidating panel that are all par for the course when it comes to trying to land a role. And auditions certainly can be a minefield to navigate, so Drew and Sam discuss how they personally try to step carefully (yet enthusiastically!) through the process, and hopefully come out the other side with “the job”.
Yet another massive subject is addressed by our dynamic duo, and not just wanting listeners, viewers and subscribers to enjoy the episode, this is another opportunity where the chaps actively encourage involvement - after all it’s all one big podcast family here at Drewling Samantics!
