Drew and Sam are actors. They haven’t won any Academy Awards yet, and neither of them is in line to be the new James Bond (sorry Sam), but between them they do have over half a century’s worth of experience in the industry. Many months ago a combination of boredom, significantly reduced work opportunities (thanks pandemic!) and overactive and under-stimulated imaginations inspired them to create a podcast, and somehow they’re still at it. Join the Drewling Samantics chaps every Sunday (or download and listen later) as they give an entertaining insight into how their industry works - from modelling to voiceover, theatre to film, and television to streamed media, the gents talk about all areas of performance artistry, giving an insider view that is sometimes humorous, often eye-opening or poignant, and at times just downright strange! With regular guest appearances and the odd special ‘on location’ segment, Drewling Samantics brings something unique and fresh to the world of podcasts from two normal blokes, working in a rather abnormal industry.

Hocus Pocus, Blokes in Focus
Another eventful week has passed for the gents of Drewling Samantics, with both Drew and Sam having spent time out and about. The shorter half of our dynamic duo attended a premiere of his latest film at a rather grand and secretive location - and that’s secretive in more ways than one; while the lankier member of the team spent a very creative weekend at a photographic workshop run by previous podcast visitor. All this may seem quite cryptic, but never fear as the truth will be exposed (and don’t worry, that’s all the exposure there will be, that reference is in no way connected to the aforementioned photo-shoot!)
Reporting back on their outings, whilst being fun, proves to also be quite thought provoking, and in turn initiates some in depth discussion regarding dealing with rejection and the consequential lower points in their careers – something that is sadly rather familiar to almost all actors and creatives. The mood isn’t all doom and gloom though, and of course the serious chat is brightened by the usual silliness, some obligatory mickey-taking, and even a podcasting staple masquerading as a dessert! Well if that doesn’t make you intrigued enough to tune in, then quite simply nothing will!

Music Hall
It is well established that Drew and Sam both thoroughly enjoy their work, and this week they are joined by a guest who quite clearly shares their feelings. Yes the Drewling Samantics chaps’ latest visitor is James Hall, an enormously talented young man who epitomises the phrase ‘follow your dreams’, as even as a child he knew deep down what he wanted to be and to do with his life. Starting out as a talented dancer and performer then making the jump to what is now his main discipline and passion, music, Uncle Jim-Jam (as he is known to Sam and a few others - tune in to find out why!) talks with energy and enthusiasm about his work as a musical director, composer and accompanist. But not content with being the best he can be, James also likes to share his knowledge and pass it on to those learning their craft, so spends a lot of his time teaching too, something else he obviously adores.
James is on a fascinating and positive journey in his career, and from achieving early childhood dreams to understanding how he wants to shape his future, it is easy to see that many more successes lie ahead for this already highly accomplished gent. So what are you waiting for?! Join Drew, Sam and James for this latest podcasting special event!

Hear Ye, Hear Ye
The weekend has arrived and once again we are rewarded with more industry musings from our boys at Drewling Samantics. This week’s episode sees Drew and Sam discussing the challenges of promoting new productions and upcoming work, and the equally important task of “selling” themselves. Following on from their wonderful guest last week, the brilliant Sam Quested, and his insights into producing, Drew and Sam share their experiences of promoting and advertising some of the shows they have been associated with. They also reveal their thoughts on the use of social media and the huge impact it has had on new work and showcasing actors as products.
Press launches, posters, hand bills, personal appearances and promotional stunts are just some of the methods employed in raising awareness for shows across all spheres of the industry, and now more than ever the performance world needs to attract audiences. So listen in as the dynamic duo get to grips with another fascinating facet of the business, and realise that in an increasingly competitive market, almost anything goes!

Season Four - Best of Guests
Season Four of Drewling Samantics has proved to be a fascinating journey in many ways. Both Drew and Sam spent an extended period of time away from home, performing in Coventry and touring Norfolk respectively, but as it is said ‘variety is the spice of life’, and the boys certainly have had a spicy variety of guests “visiting” their different locations. And the variety didn’t stop at the guests themselves, as they represent so many entertainment fields and branches, including pantomime and puppets, horror and humour, impressions and imitation, music and magic, parodies and producing, comedy and... cats.
If only some or none of these at all sound familiar to you, you definitely have some catching up to do and this is the episode for you. The best bits, moments and stories from this season’s guests: Jamie Riding, Tony Rudd, Kirsty and Jason Wright from Silent Studios, Edmond Wells, Charlie Freeman and Dave Bibby are waiting for you, and it couldn’t be easier to discover exactly which highlights our favourite podcasting pair have chosen - you know what to do!

Not Just a Pretty Face

This week the Drewling Samantics chaps welcome the immensely talented Rebecca Grace to the show. A makeup artist, wig stylist and hair specialist, she represents one of the unsung but vital cogs in the entertainment machine, and, due to being highly trained and highly skilled, is certainly in great demand.

Rebecca has deployed her talents in many branches of the industry both on stage and screen, as well spending a lot of time working in the commercial sector and in education too, so it is no shock that her skills have been recognised by producers and companies world-wide. Drew and Sam are delighted she can take time out from her busy schedule (which even includes running her own company!) for a quick chat, and while she may not be able to spare the amount of time it would take to give the boys a makeover, she can still manage to pass on a few hints and share some of her career highlights too.

Great fun and fabulously enlightening, this latest episode is definitely sounding, and looking, like a winner!

Now fast approaching the end of Season Two, Drew and Sam are on top form as ever as they get back to more regular work on various projects and productions. And not only are they back and busier than ever, but our podcasting pair have acquired a helping hand to entertain us in this latest instalment of Drewling Samantics!

There have been many great guests over the past weeks and months (including Drew’s wife!) and Drew and Sam’s final visitor of the season is certainly no different. Yes in this episode the boys are joined by the brilliant Sam Clemens - director, actor, writer and film maker. Mr Clemens is bursting with enthusiasm for his craft, and his dedication, intelligence and joy for his work are obvious and inspiring. Son of the great theatre, TV and film writer and producer Brian Clemens, he has clearly inherited his father’s passion and wit, and along with his brother George, and their production company Take The Shot Films, they are creating a whole new Clemens catalogue of work. Don’t miss this episode, it’s full of great insight and fun, as well as Drew and a pair of Sam’s!

Technophobia

This latest episode of Drewling Samantics has the boys well and truly divided. Not in a negative sense, but more on and understanding and enjoyment level. When it comes to technology Drew certainly isn’t as keen as Sam, however both of them have had to use it a lot in their careers - and considerably more so in recent times. As the industry adapts after the ‘unwelcome guest’ and the resultant lockdowns, actors are becoming more dependent on tech and a bit of know-how, and in today’s instalment Drew and Sam touch on a few things they’ve learned and attempt to pass on a bit of knowledge too while revealing some rather unusual and entertaining experiences! Tune in now for insider info including tips and weird workarounds - as well as a potentially exciting announcement for those who entered the competition from last week’s guest Verona Chard...!

Riding High

Season Four has barely begun and already Drew and Sam are welcoming their first guest! Yes, today the chaps are joined by the fabulous Jamie Riding - a young actor with a great future and a fresh presence in the industry. As a performer Jamie has his eyes fondly on the past, and specialises in the traditions of two not totally unrelated theatrical disciplines.

When he’s not delighting audiences as a pantomime dame, Jamie is normally found capturing and captivating new young audiences as Punch and Judy puppeteer “Professor JR”. He tells the chaps about honing his skills with advice and support from some big names in the business, and how he strongly believes you should never pass up an opportunity! Following an illustrious line of performers before him, he loves that he is part of a time-honoured institution, but also leading a new vanguard of actors and creatives who are keeping these traditions alive and breathing new life into them.

Delighting in his work and with an infectious joy, Jamie is an actor, storyteller and performer with so much to give and share, so sit back and enjoy his visit to Drewling Samantics!
