Drewling Samantics

Don’t Speak Too Soon
Silence is not really all that useful when it comes to podcasting, but in this episode of Drewling Samantics there are certain things Drew and Sam have to remain tight-lipped about. They aren’t being deliberately awkward, no they are simply following orders, or more specifically sticking to an agreement, but with a promise to reveal more later, the good news is the future must hold some big news! And it’s ok, we can be patient - for now!
Alongside explaining the reasoning behind their secrecy, the boys take a look at some industry news again, which results in discussions regarding the lingering effects of the pandemic, the strides being taken to improve conditions for performers, the Edinburgh Festival, new openings, final curtains, and much more.
Wide-ranging conversation that has with something for everyone interested in the entertainment world, as well as a hint or two about their guest next week - the lads certain have packed it in this episode, so join them now to find out more!

S06E02 - Master of Mirth

Master of Mirth
For the first guest of Season Six Drew and Sam are lucky enough to be joined by the very gifted and incredibly funny Callum Donnelly. A quick glance at his credentials proves he is more than qualified to talk comedy, and he’s even a familiar face to long-time Drewling Samantics fans, having appeared briefly on the special pantomime episode in Season Three.
With a Masters in comedy and many years of experience in the theatre, Callum is proof that getting laughs is a serious business. Whether working solo or collaborating with other performers, his success on stage and screen has allowed him to branch out and take on various other connected roles in the entertainment sector including writing and teaching, and he even works closely with Canterbury’s Marlowe theatre and the RSC, taking Shakespeare into schools and to the wider community, as both a director and mentor.
If that wasn’t enough to keep him busy, he runs an events company taking cinema to rural communities, further showing he is a true advocate of getting the arts to the people. Callum is hugely inspiring, extremely funny, and most of all is a superb guest and a brilliant way for Drew and Sam to kick off the guest list for this brand new season!

S06E04 - Theatrical Therapy

Theatrical Therapy
The famous phrase tells us “laughter is the best medicine”, and it is equally true that theatre and entertainment can help in many ways when it come to improving the lives of those who need an extra bit of positivity, or are suffering in some way.
Drew and Sam’s second guest of Season Six is David Bain - a man deeply involved in and passionate about theatre, bringing the hidden plight of others to light, and helping people to heal. The unique shows he has written are designed primarily to give necessary exposure to the serious subject of mental health, but beyond using theatre to open this world and publicise it more, Dave also successfully uses his creations to manage a delicate juggling act of entertaining and informing.
Combining his experience as an actor, musician, writer, and producer with being a practising psychotherapist, results in his work being not only well crafted and presented, but vital and hugely appreciated, and Dave’s ability to find humour in just the right places while never losing the gravitas or impact of the serious topics he addresses has earned him and his productions extremely positive responses. So join Drew, Sam and Dave in this latest Drewling Samantics episode, for conversation that is sometimes serious, sometimes light hearted, and always interesting and entertaining.
