Divine Enigma
10/20/24 • 58 min
Imagine uncovering the hidden narratives of neurodiversity within the prison walls—Dr. Alex, a distinguished psychiatrist, guides us through this transformative journey. From Italy to London, discover how a groundbreaking experience in a prison setting ignited their passion for forensic psychiatry. Dr. Alex sheds light on the unique mental health challenges faced by incarcerated women with undiagnosed ADHD, painting a vivid picture of the internalized struggles that often go unnoticed. With heartfelt anecdotes about balancing a demanding career with personal respite, listeners gain an insider's view into the life of a professional navigating complex psychiatric landscapes.
Unpacking the gender-specific manifestations of ADHD, our discussion with Dr. Alex reveals how societal norms shape the experiences of neurodiverse individuals. The conversation contrasts the silent battles of women with their externalised counterparts in men, offering a nuanced perspective on the mental health crises within female prisons. These insights encourage a shift towards more inclusive treatment strategies that honor the diverse backgrounds of those affected. Dr. Alex's reflections emphasize the pivotal role of understanding and empathy in transforming mental health approaches, especially in challenging environments.
Beyond the clinical and into everyday life, Dr. Alex shares practical strategies for managing ADHD, advocating for a holistic blend of lifestyle adjustments and medical interventions. From consistent sleep patterns to stress-reduction techniques, they offer a roadmap for enhancing focus and well-being without overly relying on medication. The episode concludes with a personal touch—Dr. Alex recounts their own ADHD journey, highlighting the emotional impact and empowerment that comes from receiving a diagnosis later in life. Listeners leave with a deeper appreciation for supporting neurodiversity, not only in prisons but across all facets of life, including the workplace.

As a neurodiverse person too, Tumi has experienced the chaos that comes with it, struggling to be organized and often needing assistance from his wife. Tumi's neurodiversity is Dyspraxia, one of the least recognised or understood forms of neurodiversity. Interestingly, Dyspraxia is more prevalent than ADHD and Autism in the UK; however, there are close to 50 times more publications about the latter than the former.
Dyspraxia is medically described as Developmental Coordination Disorder. "Dys" means difficulty while "Praxia" means Action. Hence, it means difficulty executing gross or fine motor skills. It also includes struggling with organization, time management, forgetfulness, and sleep. On the other hand, some of the strengths include creativity, empathy, and the ability to speak publicly.
Audacity and confidence—how do they shape our personal and professional lives, especially for a dyspraxic man finding love in a world filled with societal expectations? Sarah and her guest unpack this topic with heartfelt anecdotes, from overcoming insecurities to the significant role of empathy and strong friendships. The discussion extends to navigating employment as a neurodivergent person, highlighting the impact of representation, mentorship, and advocacy within the Black neurodiversity community. This episode also touches on the practicalities of daily life challenges and the crucial need for systemic support, providing a comprehensive look into the world of neurodiversity and success.

The membership also offers a full diagnostic assessment for neurodiversity from educational psychologists or Medical Doctors closely supported by the British Dyslexia Association and Lexxic. This is huge because of the long waitlist. Nonmembers are charged £5 at Divineenigma.org for a body doubling session.

Building an Inclusive Future for Autistic Coders
Divine Enigma
05/06/24 • 44 min
Embarking on a journey from eager coder to independent freelancer, our returning guest Oluwaseye lays out the blueprint for navigating the tech world while honouring their neurodiversity. They delve into the nuances of building a thriving client base, crafting a website for an online service business, and balancing freelance work with their unique needs. This episode promises a roadmap for those seeking to marry their personal aspirations with their professional pursuits, all while defying the traditional job hunt in favour of self-sufficiency.
There are two points of note in finding a spouse. Firstly, having a relationship with God can be highly beneficial; Oluwaseye had asked God for the kind of spouse he wanted and Sarah was exactly what he prayed for. Secondly, finding a good church is another important aspect. Some churches may not be a good fit as was our guest's experience until Sarah invited him to a more welcoming church. A lot of these shortcomings are simply because of the human flaws of the people running the church.
Some of the negatives of autism in Oluwaseye's experience include depression, vulnerability to bad friends, and difficulty being understood. Some of the positives are his marriage, his friendships, and his closeness to God.
Finally, we turn the spotlight on the Autistic Black Coders initiative, a testament to the power of community and the importance of mentorship in forging a tech career that aligns with one's true calling. From project management to customer success, the opportunities for neurodiverse individuals in tech are vast and varied.

Erin is a digital marketing apprentice working with her mum to create "Neuro Network", which is a networking platform for neurodivergent business owners. She also created her graphics design business, Ethereal Creative Design. Neuro Network consists of small groups of neurodiverse business owners who connect in a safe familiar space where they can be authentic unlike in a more neurotypical business environment.
Erin has always felt different from childhood when she had immense difficulty making friends. She also later noticed she had a very strong reaction to certain sounds like chewing which she discovered was called Misophonia, a condition her mum already had. In addition, she has Misokinesia where repetitive movement is the trigger for the reaction. The reaction can be physically disabling as it impedes the ability to think and may even instigate suicidal thoughts. A very similar occurrence is seen in OCD too.
Sarah hopes to have a workshop with Erin for neurodiverse business owners to network. Interested listeners can fill out the form below.
Sarah has now launched her membership platform "NeuroEnigma", where neurodiverse people can have a supportive community with resources to manage ADHD or dyslexia.
She is also offering a six-week coaching program for neurodivergent and neurotypical professionals who want to improve their career prospects or get into project management and take the PRINCE2 practitioner exam.A one-hour free sessionwhich can be booked via Sarah’s email is now available to give clients an idea of what to expect

Neurodiversity Celebration Week
Divine Enigma
03/19/23 • 6 min
In this episode, I talk about Neurodiversity Celebration Week, highlighting the aim of this celebration and how everyone can take part in supporting neurodivergent individuals.
Neurodiversity Celebration Week is an annual event that takes place during the third week of March. The goal is to celebrate the strengths and talents of neurodivergent individuals including those with ADHD, dyslexia, and others. Neurodiversity is not a disorder or disability but a difference in thinking that can bring innovative ideas to society.
To be able to celebrate neurodiversity, you need to learn more about it, and find out the unique strengths and challenges of different conditions that fall under it. This helps break down stigma and stereotypes. You can also advocate for inclusion and accessibility for neurodivergent people, including flexible working arrangements, assistive tools, and friendly environments. Attending or even hosting neurodivergent events such as webinars or workshops, is another way to join the celebration. This would aid in spreading awareness about neurodiversity.
Sarah is offering a six-week coaching program for neurodivergent and neurotypical professionals who want to improve their career prospects or get into project management and take the PRINCE2 practitioner exam.
