Lessons from the Voluptuous Woman at the Spa

I see beauty in so many different bodies- why can't I see beauty in mine?
This episode reflect on the time I encountered a beautiful, full-figured grandmother at the spa. I saw so much beauty in her wrinkles, rolls, and curves. I saw beauty and a life-time of love in her worn hands and ample, grandmotherly bosom. And yet, i could not see that beauty in my own body.
Why do we judge ourselves so harshly?

Body Image Story (Trailer)
As a woman who's lived a very active life, I still always felt like my body was never quite right. This podcast is all about exploring these insane body image issues that so many of us have grown up with and been subjected to, especially as females. I am excited to explore stories from people of color as people that are in perhaps bodies of a different gender than they were born in. People transitioning, non-binary people who society says, "Your body is not presenting in the way we expect it to present, and therefore we will shame you about it". We explore these stories and look at why we have all of these body image stories.
Those are the stories I'm really excited about exploring because we live in bodies that the patriarchal system we are in has told what our bodies should look like, what we should do with our bodies, the value of our bodies, and when our bodies are no longer valued. And we're talking about ageism, we're talking about weight, we're talking about just size and shape and color and all of those things.

Understanding the Origins of Body Terrorism: The Eating Disorder Episode
Wellll...this is a podcast about exploring the origins of our body image messages. I am certainly not an expert- just a 49 year-old post-hysterectomy woman trying to finally learn to love this body I am in. This past week was a tough one for me. My disordered eating and distorted body image issues went through the roof.
I bought Sonya Renee Taylor's book: The Body is Not an Apology and was blown away by the messages in her book. It helped my disordered funk so much! For the next few episodes, I am going to explore a few of the concepts that Sonya brings to the forefront. She is all about smashing the systems of oppression that create Body Terrorism and move into Radical Self-love.
