Ep. 089: 2023 Individual Quarterfinal Recap With Adrian Bozman

“I do believe that we are still a culture of integrity. We are still a culture of honesty and it doesn’t sit well with me that people think it’s solely the responsibility of us administering the competition to act in a way that upholds the nature of the competition. That’s on everybody. Yeah, it’s our job to administer it, and it’s our job to do the best job that we can to make sure that we get the athletes that are doing it right and filtering through to those next stages, and are rewarded for it. Absolutely. That’s our responsibility. We take full responsibility for that. But, it’s also the responsibility of the athletes engaging in this, the affiliates that they come from, the coaches that are judging them, the other athletes around them to engage in this in a way that is putting the best foot forward for everybody.”
Competition Director Adrian Bozman joins the show to share some behind-the-scenes perspective on the 2023 Individual Quarterfinal with host Chase Ingraham.
The Individual Quarterfinal is done and the leaderboard is locked. The top 60 men and 60 women from Europe, North America West, and North America East, along with the top 30 men and top 30 women from Asia, Africa, Oceania, and South America will be invited to compete live at their respective Semifinal competition.
In today’s episode, Boz dives into his top moments from the competition, programming for Quarterfinals, the score review process for online competitions, and penalty assessment for unmet or improper movement or test standards.
Hear from Boz as he explains the inclusion of movements like V-ups, chest-to-wall handstand push-ups, and crossovers into the programming, and thoroughly details the video review process, including the steps taken to assess penalties and notify athletes of score adjustments. Boz also explains why accountability across all parties involved in competition is important for the legitimacy of the sport.
Stay through the end of the episode to learn about the updated worldwide ranks and how extra Games qualifying spots were allocated across Semifinal competitions, and to hear from Boz on what to expect at Semifinals.
