When you're having one of those moments and hear your spouse say, "How can I help you?" Is that all you have to say? This is as much your situation as it is mine.

This is a conversation too many couples have that seems to be more one-sided than inclusive. Quickly, the atmosphere changes from being on the same team to being an individual.

And you call this a marriage? A team on the same side?

Why is it that men just don't get it? We don't need help; we need them to participate.

We need them to ....

  • step up to the plate,
  • not ask questions and just do it,
  • take responsibility like we do - no questions asked,
  • oh...just do something!

Now we have to give credit to our men out there who are really trying. All they think is that we want them to ask permission to help so they don't mess up something.

Talk about MISCOMMUNICATION!!!

Life is so unfair in marriage. No, it's really not. We just need to change the conversation and how we handle daily stresses.

We all have daily stresses. The kids can be spilling milk, coloring all over the table, fighting with siblings, complaining about losing Fortnite, and being just crabby!

It's time for the team to step it up! And yes, THE TEAM!!!

You and your spouse are on the same team! But in conversation, it usually sounds like you're in battle.

The last thing you need is conflict added to chaos.

Be honest, when was the last evening you spent that was calming and refreshing?

Unfortunately, many don't. The evening is the let-down to the entire day. And because you're all a part of the same family, you let all the good, the bad, and the ugly hang out.

So let's begin to change the conversation and get on the same page!

The K.I.S.S. ~ Get on the same page!

You need to be speaking the same language. If this is truly bothering you, have a conversation with your spouse to guide him.

  1. Don't get so personal over the word help! And this specifically applies to us women!!! When the word "help" is used, we assume that the responsibility falls ONLY on us.
  2. Encourage the language....What can I do for you?
  3. Acknowledge that 'I will do the same for you!'

Playing on the same team is a challenge. Why do you think football teams practice DAILY?

Get on the same page. Create an environment that encourages the all-inclusive team, your family!

1336 How to Escape Negative Thinking Traps

Part of growing up and learning how to manage the game of life starts by knowing how to escape negative thinking traps. The traps that hold you back from taking the next step, saying 'yes' when everyone is telling you 'no', and giving up before you even begin.

Life is so competitive for our children, and it's not any better for us adults. We label them as winners from the day they were born (birth measurements). And then it carries on to how quick they crawl and walk, read and add, play sports and excel amongst their friends.

Why do we push our children the way we do?

Yes, we want what's best for them. However, how do you determine the "best"? Sometimes what we want for their best is only adding to their worst; not being able to live up to what mom thinks.

The first failure comes with a blow to our heart. But to them, it's just falling down. We make it a bigger deal than what it has to be.

And moms, we have to be careful not to over exaggerate the problem. We love words and re-telling the stories; hashing it out. But for our children, it's reliving what they didn't think was a big deal, yet now it's a HUGE deal!

In the beginning, the words cut the heart opening up the floodgates of negative thinking.

How are you painting your child's failures in his mind? Where does she really struggle?

Honestly, we tend to mess up our own children by wanting what's best for them. In reality, we need to give them guidance and not commands, love and not wishful thinking.

Building them up to know who they are in Christ and to you! They want something tangible to grab hold of.

When we think we're leading them to higher ground, sometimes it's more of luring to the negative thinking traps.

Now this is not to fault you. We all try our very best as we know it. But can we know more?

YES!!

Negative thoughts are centered around exaggerations and untruths.

A child can be playing at recess, stumbles and falls. So no one picks them for the next game. All you hear from your child is, 'Nobody wanted to pick me.'

That's an exaggeration. And on top of that, it's the false labels... NOBODY!

We have to be careful with how we respond to our children in how they share life's experiences when we don't know the entire REAL story.

So if you want to know how to escape negative thinking traps for your child and for you,

The K.I.S.S. ~ Break free with truth!

This truth is grounded in the REAL and not the exaggerated story.

"Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things." ~ Philippians 4:8

How do you break free with truth? It comes with L.A.S.E.R. truth!

  1. Listen to your child. No expectations or self interpretations.
  2. Ask questions for clarity. Don't make assumptions.
  3. Summarize the emotions expressed and name it. As they told the story, what was your child feeling.
  4. Examine the story as told. No elaborations. Use only the information given to you.
  5. Resolve with actions. Take A.I.M.! What's next?

You want to encourage the positive thoughts even when things get tough! But those positive thoughts are spoken in TRUTH!

I saw some #tweets these past few days when it came to wearing white and it got me thinking.

God wants us to stand out for Him. He doesn't want us to concede to what others demand. God desires us to clothe ourselves in compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.

"Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience." ~ Colossians 3:12

Wear white, including especially after Labor Day!

The K.I.S.S. ~ Wear white!

It truly is a reminder of how God wants us to live. Not by the ways of this world, but in obedience to Him.

Now I'm all for uniforms, and then we wouldn't have to worry about colors or anything else for that matter. However, God created you uniquely your own!

Step into the greatness He is calling you to this Fall season. Don't place your hopes in what the world calls you to. Stand out for what God desires for you.

Let your colors shine brightly; as you were created on purpose for a purpose.

It's time.... LIFE. On purpose!

When you rise up in the morning, look for garments that project love and grace, kindness and humility. Reach out to those who have fallen and pick them up with your brightness radiating from your compassionate heart.

Stand up taller knowing that God's got you! Everything you encounter, God has already walked. Be patient in your every day. Seek Him first and approach the day with a gentleness.

God's timing is heavenly. No need to rush through the moments. Be present and know He's training you up for greatness.

As you clothe yourself, remember to let it be a reflection of whom God is raising up.

Whatever the color, may it be a beacon of light for all to see His glory!
