Coffee & Divination

In this latest episode, it was wonderful to welcome back John Michael Greer, a prolific author, teacher, and practitioner of the esoteric arts. We dive into the fascinating world of tarot and explore his work with his late teacher, John Gilbert, whose insights and teachings JMG edited and published in The Doors of Tarot. He shares reflections on Gilbert’s unique approach to tarot, and we discuss our views of patterns and spreads in readings, how divination can be best approached when just starting out, and what made Gilbert's teachings so unique and impactful. I really enjoyed the conversation, and reading The Doors of Tarot, which I absolutely recommend.

Later in the episode, we also shift gears to discuss the fundamentals of mundane astrology—using the stars to explore the patterns of global events. A particularly interesting topic as we start the new year!

Episode #47: Professor David Zeitlyn on Mambila Spider Divination and the Bodleian Library's New Exhibition

Send us a text

In this episode, I sit down with the Professor David Zeitlyn of Oxford University, a leading expert in the anthropology of divination and co-curator of the Bodleian Library's stunning new exhibition, Oracles, Omens, and Answers. Professor Zeitlyn has spent decades studying divination practices across cultures, including his research on, and practice of, Mambila spider divination in Cameroon and Nigeria.

We discuss the highlights of the Bodleian Library's exhibition (which is open until April 27, 2025,) and explore the cultural framework of divinatory practices like spider divination, and the intersections of ancient methods and modern tools. I hope you enjoy the conversation!

In this latest episode, I had the pleasure of welcoming back Lilith Dorsey—an author and priestess with an extensive background as a tarot reader and witch. We dive into their latest book, Tarot Every Witch Way, an insightful guide to deepening one’s connection with tarot through magical correspondences, food, plants, herbs, and much more.

Lilith brings such a wealth of experience to this conversation, and I enjoyed discussing their approach to tarot and magic.
