A quick mid-morning rain passing through on Memorial day. There is a low rumble of thunder, gutters flowing and our House wren all heard. This recording was captured using the built in mic capsules on the Tascam DR-40 mounted on a tripod out on the back porch.

A Pandemic Fourth

In the midst of a global pandemic the celebration of the independence of America was like no other Fourth of July. Neighborhoods across the United States celebrated with their own firework displays despite local laws against them.

This audio was captured using the Tascam DR-05X on a mini tripod with a deadcat windscreen.

Testing Custom Dead Cat

I purchased some faux fur and made a custom dead cat to fit over mics and my recorder. It was a pain to sew but hopefully helps in windy conditions. I added pull cords to ensure a snugger fit. I plan to build a DIY blimp soon which was also the reason for such a big dead cat. I used SE 7 matched pair with my Tascam DR-40. The mics were mounted about 6 inches apart, this was just a test of the wind cat so i wasn’t concerned with placement. 35 mph gusts.
