Plane Overhead
Captured Sound
08/18/22 • 2 min
This clip is from an hour long morning recording in March. I had my SASS setup in the backyard near my feeders when this plane flew overhead.
This recording was captured using my DIY SASS microphone which has four AOM-5024HD-R mics wired in parallel and a Tascam DR-05x.

Isleview Park
Captured Sound
05/30/20 • 5 min
I took a walk one early morning and found the water washing up to be calming among all of the sounds of life around me. This audio was captured using the Roland CS-10EM Binaural monitors with the Tascam DR-05X field recorder while sitting on the edge of the Niagara River at Isleview Park in Tonawanda, New York.

Memorial Day Rain
Captured Sound
09/01/20 • 8 min
A quick mid-morning rain passing through on Memorial day. There is a low rumble of thunder, gutters flowing and our House wren all heard. This recording was captured using the built in mic capsules on the Tascam DR-40 mounted on a tripod out on the back porch.

Thunder, Rain, Birds oh my
Captured Sound
02/20/20 • 35 min
This audio was captured in my backyard under a porch with the Tascam DR-40 mounted on a tripod with a deadcat windshield.
This is a long unlooped recording of a heavy rain, gutters over flowing and then the calm. The yard starts to come back alive with the following light rain as birds ( I think a Northern Cardinal, house finch’s and Robins) start to talk again. Thunder approaches and a plane flies overhead as the next storm rolls in and again leading to a clam rain and the song of birds. This truly is one of my favorite recordings. Enjoy.

Beach at 55th Street in Ocean City, NJ
Captured Sound
02/20/20 • -1 min
This audio was captured in stereo with the Tascam DR-40 at the waters break in Ocean City NJ in July of 2019 at the 55th Street entrance. You can hear the light waves breaking while tumbling the colorful ocean pebbles and shells. You can even hear twice the shells rolling into my beach chair which was in the shallow waters edge.

Two Mile Creek
Captured Sound
04/18/20 • 4 min
The Spring morning was chilly but the sun was bright, winds were minimal, water was flowing and the birds were alive with song. This morning I took a walk along Two Mile Creek in Tonawanda N.Y, a small waterway that leads into the Niagara river. I was able to capture not only the serene sound of the birds and creek but a reminder in the distant, that civilization was still nearby.
This is actually two recordings from my walk merged into one short binaural recording were you will hear Red-Winged black birds that perched along the creek on cattails , mourning doves with their soft coo and a Downy Woodpecker call as well as a distant drum.
This audio was captured using the Roland cs-10em binaural recorder headphones to the Tascam DR-50X

Spring Evening
Captured Sound
04/11/20 • 4 min
I recently replaced my Philips DVT7500 that abruptly died with a Tascam DR-05X Linear PCM Recorder which I had been wanting to purchase and now had the perfect reason. This is my first out of the box recording in my backyard in the mid evening. In this capture you’ll hear bird song, a distant train whistle, neighborhood dogs, motorcycles and more.
The DR-05X has two stereo mics on top and a 1/8 plug in power jack located between the two capsules that works perfectly with my Roland CS-10EM monitoring earbuds and my lav mics. The DR-05 does not have any XLR inputs like my TAscam DR-40 which makes it much more portable in the field.
I haven’t had much experience with the DR-05X yet but I can already hear the difference from the Philips DVT7500 and to say I’m pleased is an understatement. I look forward to more outings with the DR-05X

Robins morning song
Captured Sound
03/21/20 • -1 min
Spring is here which means the morning is full of sound from the American Robin. In this binaural recording you will also hear the calls of the Black-capped Chickadee, Common Grackle, European Starling and for a brief moment a Crow in the distance. This binarual recording was captured with the Philips DVT7500 field recorder using the Roland CS-10EM in ear Binaural recording monitors in my backyard at dawn on March 21,2020.
I purchased a Styrofoam head awhile ago and the other day i drilled the sides to accommodate both sets of binarual earbuds. it’s very silly but it will work in the situations when i can’t or wont stay still. I used a sleeve from an old t shirt hoping to cut down and wind sound but unfortunately it did not full work. Back to the drawing board.

Doing the Dishes Test
Captured Sound
02/16/20 • 2 min
My first test of the Roland CS-10EM in ear Binaural recording monitors recorded on my Philips DVT7500 field recorder.

I’m very happy with these recorders and the ability to monitor live sound while recording will make for better future recordings. An option that is not available on the “Scenes Lifelike” recorders which can only monitor through the LifeLike software which leads to a small but distracting delay.
I wanted to capture the household sound, dishes being washed, a TV playing in the other room while my wife and daughter head up our creaky stairs to “get candy” from my studio. Every time I listen to this while in my studio I’m fooled into thinking someone is headed up the stairs.
