Call Your Sister

In today's episode Astrid and Alexandra discuss the infamous Netflix movie Malcolm and Marie. This episode contains spoiler alerts as we discuss a few scenes in detail. So don't listen if you haven't watched Malcolm and Marie on Netflix.
Malcolm and Marie is a black and white film about a filmmaker (Malcolm) who returns home with his girlfriend (Marie) following a celebratory movie premiere as he awaits what's sure to be imminently critical and a financial success. The evening suddenly takes a turn as revelations about their relationships begin to surface, testing the strength of their love. This film is played by Zendaya and John David Washington.
If curious about your reactions in combative situations with your significant other, we recommend watching this film as a cross-comparison. In this episode, we discuss some Malcolm and Marie scenes--resurfaced some past relationships and experiences, our own combative tendencies during points of conflict, how our upbringing interplays in whether we react as Malcolm or Marie, and what we would have done differently. Some psychological terms we reference are pursuer and distancer (withdrawer) interactions and the burnout withdrawal symptom. We highlight the absolute don't-do's in arguments to avoid permanently deterring long-term relationships and much more. So listen on as we break down these patterns and share our own experiences in being Malcolm , Marie or both.
