I am smart. I've got this. I can, I will, watch me!

3 simple affirmations that I use daily for a positive mindset during challenging and difficult times. Affirmations are a wonderful way to create positive shifts within our mindset and ourselves overall. It takes being intentional with your practice of using affirmations to realize the power that they truly have over our thoughts and our actions.

This episode is for you if you’re ready to learn about the power of affirmations and how you can implement them into everyday life!

3 Ways to Use Affirmations

  1. Write seven to ten words that best describe your natural gifts and talents. Once you have your list of words, you're going to create I am statements for each word. I am smart. I am pretty. I am fun... whatever it is for you on that list. You're going to read them out loud twice a day for at least 21 days more on this later. And when you have a negative thought about yourself, you're going to choose one of these I am statements to remind yourself of your unique and positive qualities.
  2. Create an affirmation to support you in keeping on track with a specific goal. Reference that affirmation daily, no matter what you’re doing, always keeping your eye on that goal.
  3. Choose one word or a two word story to become your guiding mantra affirmation for the year.

Using these affirmations can help to make your life much simpler!

5 Tips to Ensure Success When Using Affirmations to Create Positive Change

  1. Be consistent by practicing your affirmations daily. Twice for 21 days.
  2. Be positive by phrasing your affirmations in a positive light with positive wording.
  3. Be present by only using present tense affirmations.
  4. Be personal by tailoring your affirmations to your specific needs and goals.
  5. Be emotional by tapping into the emotions connected with the affirmations that you’ve chosen.

Your Dare for the Week

I'm daring you to create an affirmation to guide you through the rest of 2024. Think about what you either want to be, do or have throughout the next months. And how do you want to feel throughout the next months of 2024? Will it be an affirmation for a specific goal, a feeling you wish to evoke, or simply an I am statement just to remind yourself of how amazing you truly are?

Then, I want you to share that dare with me!

Have you ever found yourself drowning in a sea of responsibilities and obligations? With that relentless feeling of overwhelm? You know, those moments when it seems like life is spinning out of control, and you're left gasping for a breath of fresh air? Well, brace yourself for a revelation that might catch you off guard! That overwhelming sense of chaos might very well be a result of your inability to set boundaries.
Now, I know what you're thinking – "Boundaries? Really?" It might come as a surprise to many, but the lack of clear boundaries can often be the hidden culprit behind our feelings of exhaustion and unease. But fret not, because today on Beyond Empty Nest, we have an extraordinary guest who's here to shed light on this intriguing connection.
Ann Weiser Cornell, author and CEO of Focusing Resources, is no stranger to the world of inner exploration and self-discovery. With over 35 years of experience in teaching and sharing her wisdom worldwide, Ann is a recognized authority in the field of Focusing – a transformative practice for emotional self-healing and understanding. She's also the co-developer of Inner Relationship Focusing and Untangling, and the author of several influential books, including "The Power of Focusing" and "The Radical Acceptance of Everything."
In today’s conversation, we'll explore the pivotal role that boundaries play in our lives. So, if you're ready to gain a new perspective on your overwhelming feelings and move toward greater self-awareness, tune into Ann Weiser Cornell’s advice.
❤️ Your Dare this week is for the next 24 hours, every time you notice a stressful emotion, use this language: “I am sensing that something in me feels [name the emotion]”. You can follow that up with: “And I'm saying hello to that.” For example, “I'm sensing something in me. I’m feeling really anxious right now, and I'm saying hello to that.” And then notice what happens after. Notice if that makes a difference in your feelings of being overwhelmed.

In our busy lives, it's easy to lose sight of our worth. We often find ourselves searching for validation outside of us—through our children, partners, parents, or work. Little do we realize the toll this takes on our self-worth.
Every woman I meet in the Moms Who Dare and Moms Who Double Dare communities have a common sentiment—they seek to discover their purpose, find meaning, feel fulfilled, and, of course, have fun in this next chapter of their lives. The revelation is this: you can achieve all of that, but only if you start with yourself.
Our journey of discovering purpose, fulfillment, and fun, reconnecting with dreams and what matters most, begins with knowing and believing in ourselves. That's why today's episode is not just a conversation; it's a dare—a dare to write yourself a love letter!
❤️ This week’s DARE is to write yourself a love letter, to shift your focus from loving others to loving yourself. After writing your love letter, read it aloud to yourself, seal it in an envelope, and revisit it when you need a boost.
❤️❤️ Another great way to show yourself some self-love? My "Self-Talk Clean Up". Sign-up below for the 7-day mini-challenge and give yourself the attention you deserve.

I can hardly believe it, but today marks our 50th episode. And what a journey it has been! As we celebrate this milestone, I couldn't think of a more fitting topic than fear management, a subject that resonates with all of us on some level.
Our returning guest, Diana Place, was with us in Episode 2 when we first launched this podcast a year ago. A lot has happened since then and Diana's story has evolved in incredible ways.
Diana shares three transformative experiences —a cancer diagnosis, the loss of a business venture, and an empty nest—and how they all acted as catalysts for her to reassess her path and unleash her wildest dreams.
Fear was a constant companion during this introspective period. The fear of mortality, the fear of failure, and the fear of the unknown all played significant roles in shaping her perspective. However, instead of succumbing to these fears, Diana made a conscious choice to confront and manage them.
This decision became the cornerstone of her journey toward self-discovery and reinvention, propelling her to prioritize what truly mattered in her "one wild and precious life."
In this episode, we celebrate the resilience, courage, and growth that can emerge when we choose to confront and manage our fears. Through Diana’s story, we invite our listeners to recognize the potential for positive change that lies within fearless self-exploration.❤️ Your DARE for this week is to remember when you were about five.

What were the things you loved the most and what defined your wildest dream? What is that one thing you will dare to explore starting today?

In today's fast-paced and often stressful world, it's easy to get caught up in the negativity and frustration that seem to surround us. It feels like people are quicker than ever to become irritable over trivial matters, adding to the tension and stress we navigate daily. But with all of this chaos, a simple remedy is often overlooked: smiling.
Yes, you read that right—smiling. It's a small gesture that holds immense power to transform your mood and the atmosphere around you. In today’s episode, we dive into three compelling reasons why smiling is a game-changer in our quest for happiness and well-being.
❤️ Your Dare for this week has two parts. First, SMILE! Smile intentionally and unabashedly. Start your day with a smile, whether it's while brushing your teeth, making breakfast, or even during mundane tasks like checking emails. Let that smile permeate every aspect of your day.

Second, spend a day smiling at everyone you encounter, whether it's the person next to you in traffic, a stranger at the supermarket, or someone you're speaking to on the phone. Watch how this simple act of kindness brightens not just their day but yours as well.

Let's make the world a brighter place, one smile at a time.
