Amanda Crowell Itliong | Not Dead Yet
Becoming Lit AF
05/05/21 • 73 min
Amanda is a badass human being. Her tagline tells it like it is. #notdeadyet
While you'd be tempted to think this conversation is all about cancer. It is really about how our circumstances define us, and what it really means to be ALIVE.
At 29 years old, living in San Francisco, with her dream job, a husband, and travel, she was taken, quite literally, to her knees by the big-bad C-word, ovarian cancer. Now, at 41 years old, she has been in and out of remission countless times, and lives with the diagnosis of terminal cancer and weekly treatments to prolong the inevitable.
What makes Amanda so incredible is far-reaching beyond her cancer chronicles, it is how she has chosen to show up. While we would all like to imagine the person we'd become when shit hits the fan on repeat, Amanda is who I would aspire to be. She is hilarious, joyful, fierce, and has found powerful ways to create a meaningful life. She is an advocate, an activist, a public speaker, a patient advocate and the kind of person who sends you a hand-made card in the mail to say thanks.
I am honored to have spent time with Amanda in conversation, laughter, reflection and mutual respect. I hope you enjoy her energy and learn from her story.
And remember Amanda's sentiment, while cancer in many ways defines and rules her life, her autonomy, her body, it is in no way the totality of who she is. No one thing is the totality of you.

Rebekah Monroe | Have you experienced religious trauma?
Becoming Lit AF
10/02/23 • 91 min
I had fun on this one! We ran the gamut from burning tweens' modesty pads to the moral implications of atheism.
Rebekah shares her story, which parallels mine in so many ways, so I do A LOT of sharing too, probably too much! But we clearly picked a similar path in this game of "choose your own adventure."
Rebekah is advocating for the world of Psychology to better acknowledge the negative impact religious experience can have on the human mind, mental health, and overall well-being.

Sona Bhatnagar M.D. tragically lost her husband, Mohit, and son, Nachu, within ten months of each other. After navigating immense loss, negotiating with betrayal, and learning to walk the path of grief she founded griefhealed.com and the Grief Healed Meetup. She has made it her mission to help others find their way through all of the many losses we experience as humans, and find a way to forgive, heal, and move forward.
A few years after the immense losses of Sona's son and husband, she faced her own near-death experience (NDE). Sona shares about her NDE, greeting her son in spirit, and the comfort it provided.
Dr. Bhatnagar has been featured twice on Arianna Huffington’s website Thrive Global and Cleveland radio personality Philip Keller’s podcast Blind Faith Live! Real People. Real Miracles, where she discussed triumphing over grief on the episode “Life and Death."
She received her medical degree from the University of Florida and completed her Internal Medicine residency at the University of Maryland. She has been a practicing physician for over 30 years and a Grief Recovery Specialist. She supplements her standard medical training with integrative medicine, including hypnotherapy, Reiki, Alpha, and Theta healing, Johrei and Pranic Healing, Matrix and Reconnective Healing, and Emotional Freedom Techniques.
Sona’s manuscript had been very well-received by her focus group of fellow physicians, internationally known spiritual healers, and members of her grief support group––all of whom found tremendous value in its content and encouraged her to seek publication to reach a wide audience. Additionally, during her son’s illness she received support from U2’s Bono and The Edge, as well as from Jon Stewart, and Stephen Colbert.

Carly Lozdoski is a budding astrologer and a serious truth-teller. She bravely tells her timely and personal experience of abortion at 19 years old, in college, while deeply entrenched in catholicism. This experience was life-altering for her and later became pivotal in her shift towards a renewed sense of spirituality, faith and what it is to be human. She has worked to cultivate deep soulful healing from her experience and is super open and frank about it all.
Carly found herself very pregnant, very successful, and very wounded in her car outside a liquor shop in the middle of Detroit, it was in these moments that her life transformed, her personal experience of the divine shifted and her true healing began. Carly is now the mother of 2 earthbound children and fitness fanatic and an astrologer. She is now on a path that feels more deeply in alignment with who she is. She is walking the walk and helping others to anchor to the their own divine truth and take charge of their path.

Megan Gunnell | Surviving to thriving
Becoming Lit AF
05/26/19 • 44 min
Megan Gunnell is a psychotherapist, writer, speaker and international retreat facilitator in private practice in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. After decades of working with individuals, groups and businesses Megan noticed a significant theme, so many people are simply surviving and have a deep desire to THRIVE. Megan isn't your typical therapist, she teaches more alternative or spiritual methods of connection in addition to her foundation in traditional therapy practices.
Megan and I talk about her childhood and the roots that there were planted and created a stable foundation that allowed her to grow into a deep commitment to her personal path as a therapist and teacher and how she found her way into her own intuitive work.
Megan and I also chat about how to develop your intuition, how she personally uses shamanic journeying personally and with clients and the ways she marries science based therapy with deeply spiritual practices.
Megan believes that life is meant to be lived to the fullest! That you deserve to feel energized, healthy, prosperous and confident. She knows that a lot of people feel stretched to the max. Trying to do so many things, they never feel in front of what they're in front of. They find themselves feeling preoccupied, distracted, rushed, pressured and consequently emotionally drained and fatigued. Megan Peiser | Smashing colonialism, patriarchy and reclaiming her indigenous culture
Becoming Lit AF
07/07/22 • 103 min
You will be challenged and learn in this episode. It is a must-listen.
Dr. Megan Peiser, Ph.D. challenges me to listen closely and to lean in. She wants her ancestors to look back and say "Oh Megan, she did some good work." Without question her ancestors will say that and much more about her impact.
Megan is simply brilliant, engaged, inspiring, and driven. She is deeply committed to reclaiming her own indigenous roots as a member of the Choctaw Nation. She inspires her students to stay brave, she dedicates her work to highlighting women and marginalized peoples in literature, and ignites growth through the written word and participation; whether that means reading, gardening, or smashing the patriarchy. Megan Peiser is a citizen of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. She is Assistant Professor of Eighteenth-Century Literature at Oakland University. Her research and teaching interests include women writers, history of the novel, history of the book, periodicals, Indigenous literature and culture, material culture, and digital humanities.
She lives in Michigan with her dachshunds, Jasper and Burney.
