Authentic Parenting - Living Well with Stress with Elissa Epel, PhD
play

03/16/23 • 58 min

World-renowned psychologist and best selling author Elissa Epel on embracing stress and transforming it.

Stress is a part of life.

It’s ubiquitous. It is the ocean we swim in.

We can’t avoid it. But we can learn to live well with it.

Humans have a stress response for a reason. It prepares our mind and body for what we need to do in the moment and in the moments ahead. Even our negative thoughts can trigger our bodies stress response, so we rarely experience periods of ease and deep restoration.

Humans are exquisitely built to handle stress. In fact we need it.

And in the right dosage and frequency, it helps keep our cells young and vital.

Authentic Parenting - {Coaching} 3 Ways to Improve Your Confidence as Parent
play

02/04/21 • 73 min

What do you do with so much information and advice that is out there? Do you often doubt yourself as a parent whether you are doing it right?

On today's on-air coaching call I'm helping Cara, mom of a one year old girl.

When is the right age for sending a toddler to daycare? When should she wean her baby from breastfeeding? Is it ok to pick up babies when they cry or wait 15 min before responding?

Cara is also faced with a dilemma. To return to work or to stay home with her baby. It turns out this is an emotional territory for her.

Authentic Parenting - You Are Not a Bad Parent with Carla Naumburg
play

09/29/22 • 74 min

Carla Naumburg, a clinical social worker, mother, and author of five non-fiction books, including her international bestseller, How to Stop Losing Your Sh*t With Your Kids is back to the show.

Have you ever thought that you were a bad parent, doing a shitty job, failing your kids or just doubting whther you were doing it "right"?

Parents feel that way. And there are real good reasons for that. We talk about that on the show. In addition, Carla shares tangible steps for how to use each to help parents reduce their anxiety, trust their instincts, move past the guilt and become a calmer, more confident parent. Which, in the end, benefits your child as much as you.

Great parenting is not the same thing as perfect parenting. Great parenting starts with true self-compassion, the kind that means you don’t judge yourself. Harnessing this self-compassion is the key to giving yourself a break and embracing your best qualities as a parent.

Authentic Parenting - How to Control Your Anger with Kids
play

06/29/17 • 51 min

How Not to Get Triggered By Your Kids Behavior, Lash Out at Them and What to Do Instead Step by Step

Our past plays a huge role on how we parent today and that’s what this show is all about.

So you know that I work with parents.

I talk about parenting pretty much always.

I read parenting books for my work and professional development AND...I read parenting books in my spare time.

I listen to parenting podcast and I thought that I was obsessed with the topic of parenting, until I met Avital, aka the Parenting Junkie.

Learn all about my guest here. http://www.theparentingjunkie.com/

Today on the podcast we talk about how people parent in other countries.

-how can we raise kids who have a sense of gratitude, appreciation in the age of

materialism, consumerism, 1st world 3rd world problems and perspectives.

-how people parent in other countries, Israel, Armenia, United Kingdom. What shocked her the most when she first landed in the UnIted States.

What did she bring from her upbringing into her parenting. Traditions, customs that she still continues to carry on. Values she brought into her parenting willingly or unwillingly, knowingly or unknowingly, unconsciously, consciously.

Listen till the end as Avital shares a very powerful practical, step by step example from her life on how she she keeps her cool and responds mindfully.

Also...

-the power of growing up in an environment of predicatively and reliability.

-on family dinners and why they are important

-shabbat

-simplicity parenting

-mindful parenting

Her family’s Holocaust story, how her parents grew up.

Enjoy this wide ranging conversation and think about the following:

What traditions, customs did you grow up with? What did you bring from your parents parenting into your parenting in terms values, traditions and customs? What did you consciously omit or let go?

Are we overprotecting our children?

Free range parenting

Anxiety

What are you teaching your children and how are you teaching the lessons that hold significance for you?
