ATX Metal Podcast

I wanted to mix it up a little bit so instead of interviewing one band, I sat down with three individuals from three various projects to talk about all things guitar. In this episode I sat down with a long time friend Brien Allen (Bridges Ablaze / Arborenna / Altermind), Dylan Kortz (Living Hollow / Hopefool) and Jon Tadon (Lift the Curse / The Browning).

In my years of doing this podcast, of the many things I have learned is that the musicians are nerds, haha. The depth of knowledge that they have about their gear, instruments and software they use to make the sweet, sweet sounds for our listening pleasurer amazes me. So I decided to get some of the best ones I know in a room together to have a conversation about the thing they love the most.

I wanted to dig a little bit into each other their backgrounds and get to know where all this started and what fueled their passions. Over the course of the interview we find out origin stories, first instruments and influences. I ask who will todays generations look up to as they did to the great 80's and 90's metal bands. Of course we talked about their influences and what sounds got them into their sound to include what there tuning is and how many strings is too much.

We also talk about scale length because inches matter and the thickness of your pick.

I lasted 0:07 seconds with Familiar With Failure

It is always good when I finally get to interview a local/regional band that's been on the radar for a while. Familiar With Failure is one of those bands for me. This 4 piece hailing from La Grange, Tx came up to The Fieldhouse in Cedar Park to sit down with me and have a chat about everything FWF. We chat about everything from how they started to the "it" moment they knew playing music as a band was their future. We also dive into why MySpace was so cool and dearly missed to the state of the scene in terms of promotion (or lack thereof) for shows.

We had a great time and I hope you enjoy this as much as we did. "Death Trip" is out now on all streaming platforms. Here is a short message from the band:

“The best way to support us is to follow us @fwftx on Instagram and Facebook. We post promotion posts about live shows we will be playing all the time. Also go listen to Death Trip (feat. Alec Torres) 100 times on Spotify or Apple Music.”

"You write the emails, we'll write the riffs" with Christopher Danner of Torrential Rain

I get a fair amount of emails asking for reviews and promotion and I came across one email for a band based out of Germany. It isn't everyday that I get emails from across the pond so I had to check it out and I am glad I did. Thanks to Hannes, he connected me with Christopher Danner, the vocalists/guitarist of Torrential Rain, a metalcore outfit from Nuremburg, Germany.

Germanys progressive metalcore highflyers Torrential Rain catch you where everyday life lets you down. Romance, Break-ups or reflecting on one‘s own life are just a few of the themes to let their fanbase located in over 99 countries know: You are not alone!

Coupled with the guiding principle of "power meets precision“ they fuse the unfusible: the brutal energy of bands like August Burns Red and Polaris combined with progressive-virtuoso writing á la Periphery. The four guys hailing from Germany create a perfect balance of both worlds in which brute force and delicate thoughtfulness coexist and present these American novelty trends to Europe’s stages.

We talk about the bands origins, their latest single releases and upcoming album "Digital Dreams", AI and much more.

Check out their latest singles and subscribe to their socials to stay up to date with future releases.
