In this Valentine’s Day segment, Dr. Mistry and Donna Lee answer a listener's question about his penile prosthesis, and Dr. Lucas Jacomides discusses hormone supplements for ED. The penile prosthesis is an inflatable silicon device implanted internally and completely concealed. The device is inflated using a pump implanted into the scrotum which, when activated, transfers fluid from a reservoir in your abdomen into the silicon cylinders in your penis to add both length and girth to your erection. The inflated implant produces a rigid and satisfying erection, yet appears natural and soft when not in use. At NAU Urology Specialists, our surgical team can expertly place this device and help address any issues that may have arisen with older implants. If you or someone you love would like to learn more about the inflatable penile prosthesis or have their prosthesis checked, please give us a call today!

In this segment, Donna Lee is joined by NAU Urology Specialists' very own Shefaly Ravula, PA-C. Shefaly is a Physician Assistant who specializes in food as medicine, nutritional sciences, gut health, and total systems body health. During today's episode, Donna and Shefaly discuss the diet trend of intermittent fasting. Shefaly explains what intermittent fasting is and what the different fasting configurations can look like. While there are many proponents of such diets, they are not for everyone. You should never undertake a fasting regime of any kind without consulting your primary care doctor or similar provider. Shefaly strives to help patients take charge of their health by educating them about the many healthcare options available to them beyond pills and surgeries. If you or a loved one are interested in taking control of your health through functional nutrition and holistic medicine or are curious about intermittent fasting, please give us a call!

In this episode, Dr. Mistry and Donna Lee are joined by Dr. Simon Trubek of Austin Radiological Association. As a radiologist specializing in nuclear medicine, Dr. Trubek injects radiopharmaceutical or radioactive substances into patients to help detect the presence and severity of cancer. Today, he is here to discuss PSMA, or Prostate Specific Membrane Antigen--a recently approved agent that significantly improves prostate cancer detection and treatment. In about an hour, Dr. Trubek's patients can come in and have an injection of PSMA that will help detect the presence and disease progression of slow-growing, metabolically inactive cancers like that of the prostate. Tune in to learn how PSMA is helping radiologists detect metastatic cancer by finding lymph nodes as small as 4mm in size! If you or someone you love has had prostate cancer and is worried about a recurrence, please visit https://www.ausrad.com/pluvicto/ today to learn how PSMA could set your mind at ease!

Thanks for tuning in to the Armor Men’s Health Hour Podcast today, where we bring you the latest and greatest in medical and urology care and the best urology humor out there.

In this segment, Dr. Mistry and Donna Lee are joined by friend of the practice Shawn Elander, FNP, of Victory Medical Center in South Austin, Westlake and Cedar Park. Today, Dr. Mistry and Shawn discuss the history of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the US. Interestingly, the great improvements in both prevention and treatment of recent years may have caused HIV infection rates to increase once again--partially due to more relaxed attitudes toward HIV as it's stigma wanes. While there is no substitute for sexual education and safe sex practices, two daily preventative medications, Truvada and Discovy, are available to those at higher risk of contracting HIV through sex and both are remarkably effective. There are also exposure medications that are more than 99% effective at preventing infection when taken within 72 hours of exposure. For those living with HIV/AIDS, there have been amazing advances in those drug therapies as well. It is now possible for many patients to keep their HIV levels undetectable with proper treatment. If you or someone you love is at higher risk of contracting HIV due to lifestyle choices or sex practices, or if you believe you may have been exposed recently or in the past, please give us a call today--test results are usually available within 24-48 hours. Health care providers like Shawn Elander and his colleagues at Victory Medical Center are here to help you make the safest choices you can while offering you the best treatment available, without shame or stigma.
To reach Shawn, call Victory Medical at (512) 462-3627 or online at victorymed.com.

Thanks for tuning in to the Armor Men’s Health Hour Podcast today, where we bring you the latest and greatest in urology care and the best urology humor out there.

In this segment, Dr. Mistry and Donna Lee answer a patient's question about chronic prostatitis. This condition is often brought on by bacteria and can result in chronic pelvic pain, interstitial cystitis, and episodes of bothersome urinary complaints including urinary urgency, leakage, and discomfort after ejaculation. There are many ways to treat chronic prostatitis, including pelvic floor physical therapy, pro- and antibiotics, stress management, and adequate nutrition--most likely a combination of two or more of these approaches will yield the best results. It is important for your urologist to try and determine what is causing your chronic prostatitis, so if you or a loved one struggles with this prostate condition, please give us a call to set up a consultation or to obtain a second opinion.

In this segment, Dr. Mistry and Donna Lee answer listeners' questions about seriously smelly urine/semen, symptoms of urinary urgency/frequency, and the role of the prostate in both. The first listener is afraid his doctor will dismiss his pungent problem or worse--diagnose him with something serious. Another listener enquires about the prostate artery embolization (PAE) procedure for her husband, an octogenarian who is fed up with his frequent and urgent urination. Dr. Mistry explains several factors that could be causing either/both of these issues and reiterates the importance of trust and open communication between patients and their doctors. If you or someone you love needs a second (or first) opinion about any urologic concern, contact NAU Urology Specialists today to schedule your consultation!

In this episode, Dr. Mistry and Donna Lee are joined by NAU Urology Specialists’ own Dr. Christopher Yang to discuss the underlying causes of erectile dysfunction and how responses to ED symptoms and treatments vary amongst their patients. For men who want to know why ED is happening to them, we offer in-depth evaluations such as blood work panels to check hormones, ultrasound imaging that tests blood flow, and physical evaluations to measure any build up of scar tissue. Our holistic approach also includes screening for conditions like hypothyroidism, sleep apnea, and mental health issues. Finally, our providers work to ensure that patients are taking their medications properly and that drug interactions aren't at the root of unwanted symptoms. Whether your ED is new or you’ve suffered for years without knowing why, our team at NAU Urology Specialists can help you find both answers and effective treatment today!
