Happy new year and welcome back. It is my 45th birthday. I am incredibly humbled but the life I get to live and so thankful for our community. As I look to the future, there are a few things on my mind as we all go back to work post-holiday season:

The Next 18 Months

1. Recognize that we are in a whole new world. Yes, it feels like things are going back to normal, but if you pick up where you left off in April 2020 then you didn’t learn any of the lessons of the pandemic and you are doing it wrong.
2. Balance. You need to balance three things going forward: your old clients, your new clients, and your life. Old clients deserve the world. New clients deserve the world. And you deserve the lifestyle and the balance that you’ve found.
3. Changing Expectations. Pre Covid we were in a very experiential-driven economy. Now it is all driven by expectations. Clients expect us to be working 24/7 bc we are always at home and always at work. The lines have been blurred. While in many ways the world has seen a shift towards greater social consciousness, there is also a feeling of victimhood and selfishness that had emerged. The pandemic has done this to all of us and we need to fix it.
4. Process, Product, and Pretty. For your business to thrive in a post-Covid world you need to reimagine your process - how you get things done. How you move the needle. You need to examine your product - what are you delivering. Is it notably different and better than the other options your clients have? Are you leveraging the tech and the information and the education you’ve presumably had? And the pretty - does it still matter. I have always said that pretty without process falls flat. But you can no longer just pump out Pinterest pretty work and think it’s good enough. What does your work do to the lives of those who interact with it?
5. Prepare the be inundated. Or better yet, prepare your process so that you are NOT trapped under the weight of every phone call, email, DM, etc.
