In this episode, co-hosts John, Lisa, and Kim are sharing strategies for coping with pandemic fatigue, along with Stephanie Murphy, an art therapist. The crew came up with several good ideas and phrased them beautifully. Here are some key takeaways:

  • Depression could be caused by the lack of future projection. So make plans for how you’re going to celebrate when it’s over.
  • Create wholesome routines. John, in California, takes a walk-and-talk every morning with Stephanie, who’s in Santa Fe. They get the benefits of relationships, exercise, nature, and conversation.
  • Walking a dog has similar health/mental health benefits. But even if you don’t have a dog, routinely take walks.
  • Create family Zoom meetups. Play games. Laugh. Have a dance party, complete with costumes.
  • Too much screen time creating eyestrain and causing headaches? Get some blue-light filter glasses.
  • Do whatever it is that you consider a spiritual practice. Meditations. Deep breathing exercises. Yoga. Journaling.
  • Look or sit outside. Check out the birds.
  • CONNECT WITH SOMETHING BIGGER THAN YOURSELF.
  • Angry? Make angry art!
  • Family tension? Throw a family tantrum!
  • Write a love letter to yourself. You deserve it.
  • Share your own strategies with the Alternative Health Tools community by sending an email to one of the hosts, or Stephanie.

We welcome you to the 100th episode of Alternative Health tools. Today we take a trip down health tools memory lane and introduce the hosts that made these 99 episodes possible. They’ll be sharing each of their favorite episodes and a little bit about why they choose those episodes. These were difficult choices when going through all 99 episodes, it became obvious that any of the episodes offer insights and gems of wisdom useful to anyone along the path of their health journey.

Alternative Health Tools’s first episode was released on August 17, 2014, with Lisa Thorp hosting the show. Lisa Thorp took a much-needed break, and I took over hosting on December 2, 2015 - until meeting Lisa Victoria from the U.K. who hosted her first episode on August 23, 2019.

Then on May 7, 2020, Lisa Victoria and I started alternating hosting duties effectively becoming “co-hosts” from across the pond of each other. In one episode, Lisa does an interview from the U.K. where she lives, and in the next episode, I host a conversation here in the San Diego area.

Join Us for a LIVE Zoom Call with the Practitioners!

The Community Zoom call is Saturday, August 22, 2020, at 9:30 AM Pacific USA, 12:30 PM Eastern USA, and 5:30 PM U.K. CLICK HERE to register for the call and receive notifications.

Alternative Health Tools podcast - 071 Dr. David: Discovering Your Magnificent Mind

071 Dr. David: Discovering Your Magnificent Mind

Alternative Health Tools podcast

play

06/24/17 • 52 min

www.AlternativeHealthTools.com

Dr. David is an in-demand public speaker and can be found on stages and speaking at conferences, retreats and workshops across the United States and in Canada.

David draws from his nearly forty years of public service in three fields (law enforcement, priesthood and therapist) to inspire audiences large and small and show people how to realize the life of their dreams.

Dr. James has spoken to audiences as large as 10,000 people and conducts intimate retreats with as few as 15, but no matter the size, attendees report having a personal connection that stays with them long after the event concludes.

While a police officer he spoke to community and service groups, but his passion was addressing teens in packed-out auditoriums and encouraging them to reach their highest potential as member of society. From topics as diverse as drug-abuse awareness to enlisting them to build a more just and engaged community, David never failed to inspire young people to be their best.

As an Episcopal priest, David preached weekly in faith communities large and small to help people integrate their faith into their daily life. Preaching in small country churches and metropolitan cathedrals David used a combination of inspiration, humor and real-life stories to connect his audience with their own connection to Divinity.

From the early 90’s, David conducted interfaith retreats for men who were on the journey of becoming their most authentic self. Having published two books on the spiritual life of men, he spoke to the yearning of men who wanted to break free of the limiting culture landscape of contemporary masculinity.

For the past five years, David has been speaking about the power of our Magnificent Mind and has been a featured presenter at professional gatherings of physicians, therapists and social workers. His ability to communicate profound insights in a simple and engaging manner makes him a sought-after speaker on both the professional and inspirational circuit.

Alternative Health Tools podcast - 058 Gerise Pappas: Enneagram Wisdom The Alchemy of You
play

11/01/16 • 80 min

Alternative Health Tools.com the podcast

Gerise Pappas is an Enneagram Intuitive. As she says . . .

“The Enneagram “explained me” to myself unlike any other personality system or transformational modality. I had no idea the degree to which I was defending against the very intimacy that I was seeking.

I grew up in the ethos of a conservative Catholic family where there was a “right way” and a “wrong way” and the fear of God was instilled in me. I was unaware that in order to survive, I took on beliefs which were not resonant with the heart of who I am. I was unconscious that I was withdrawing and suppressing my natural tendencies. I started becoming a defended and tragically compromised version of my original precious self. In my first year of high school I was sexually bullied and tried to regain control through eating disorders. My passion for living was a foregone memory. By my senior year suicide seemed like my only option.

Going away to college lifted me out of an environment that was killing me and gave me a new lease on life. A hunger to understand the mystery of life, and what it is to be human became my North Star. Deeply steeped in the study of transformational modalities, I moved to California in 1995 to open my heart and grow spiritually. In 1996 I was introduced to the Enneagram.

During my first 7 years of Enneagram study, I identified with the characteristics of Type 2, The Giver or Nurturer. During this period I found my study to be interesting but I was completely missing the inherent transformational value of the Enneagram. I “mis-typed” myself by trying to understand my Enneagram style based on my behaviors such as “being of service to others” rather than coming to know the nuances of my originating motivations.

Eight years ago a friend invited me to an Enneagram gathering lead by Curtis Blair, a masterful Enneagram Intuitive. When I began to interact with Curtis that evening, he said to me, “You are counter-phobic as hell!” That statement became the “buddha stick” that cracked me open!! I had enough Enneagram background to know what this meant; I wasn’t a Type 2 after all. My originating Enneagram style is Type 6, which unconsciously is driven by fear. Type 6 has the most exacerbated counter-phobic expression of any Type! Counter-phobic means to move away from fear. My cry for help was so deeply “seen” in that moment that my enormous glass-wall of a defense shattered. The rug was pulled out from the strategic defense that I had been hiding behind most of my adult life. I became aware for the first time that fear drove me to posture like a warrior. My version of Type 6 is known as “Strength and Beauty” but underneath the veneer of confidence was a trembling little girl who didn’t feel safe in this world and was constantly preparing for when the next shoe would drop. This false-front of confidence not only kept the world at bay but more importantly kept me from the greatest gift of all ... intimacy with myself. The deepest transformation of my life had just begun! The intimacy that I had been longing for started to blossom.

To this day I have been using the wisdom of the Enneagram to support my whole person integration. It is one of my greatest joys to facilitate the same for others.”
