Episode 47: Setting Boundaries Professionally
If your job is in a helping profession then your job is to show up for others every single day and you do. No matter what you are going through personally or professionally. You get dressed, you show up and you give the individuals that you work with your all. But what about you? We have all attended the compassion fatigue training but are any of them very helpful? No you know they are not. I can preach about self care and I can see your eyes start rolling. Who has time right? But here is the thing if you don’t make some and pace yourself you will never make it for the long haul. So if you only plan on doing this “for a few years” or maybe “until you have your baby” then go ahead and tune out. But if this is your career plan you may want to lean in and hold on.
We have all had our days that we literally feel like we might break. When there are so many emergencies at work, or when you have something going on at home but still need to show up at the office; when your heart is breaking because there was a tragedy. But how do you get through it? Rephrase. How do you work through it? I don’t mean just showing up at work and working I mean leaning in and dealing with the things that are going on. That is the tricky part because there is no exact formula on how to get through it. But it is a compilation of self care; support; comradery; and self soothing.
But here are a few ways to set work life boundaries so that you can continue to show up as the best version of yourself every day and curb compassion fatigue.
- Take control of what you can.
2. Be intentional
3. Plan breaks
4. Build Your Tribe
5. Try to separate work and home.

Episode 49: Crash Course In Being A One Parent Household
Hello and Welcome to the podcast; Adventures of a New You
Being faced with a pandemic has caused many families to go from being a two parent household to a one parent household. Many people who are essential personnel are deciding to isolate themselves in order to keep their families safe. This is creating a shift in parenting for many families and the parent who remains in the home is finding themselves in a position to juggle many things that they may normally have a partner for.
Being a one parent household presents a variety of challenges. Here are some of my best tips for managing as a one parent household.
- Get up EARLY
- Multi task
- ASK for help
- Delegate grocery
- Meal prep
- Try to take care of yourself
- Find your tribe
- Co-parent politely
