Explicit content warning
02/15/22 • 67 min
Nate Postlethwait - writer, survivor, & inner child recovery advocate - joins us today to discuss complex trauma. Nate walked away from his 13-year career in 2018 to take a break and reset. A couple of years prior he had two big life-changing events. In 2016 he came out as gay after many years of conversion therapy and the next year he turned 40. Both collided and launched the internal courage to make some changes in order to rebuild a life with more pleasure. Nate grew up experiencing childhood abuse starting at 5 years old. He began therapy at 18 years old and has been a life learner of all things trauma recovery. He began sharing his story on social media and that community quickly grew to over 100k people. His long-term goals are to aid in making trauma-informed therapy accessible for those who cannot afford it. In the meantime, he is a writer, a coach and leads others in finding a connection with their inner child.

50 - Jen Kirkman on Anxiety & Underearning
Today we are joined by Ken Kirkman - comedian, actress, writer & host of the podcast Anxiety Bites. Jen shares about her loving (yet dysfunctional upbriniging), her career, and her lifelong challenges with Panic and Generalized Anxiety Disorders. She also talks about her challenges with money and underearning.
WHAT IS UNDEREARNING?!?!?
"Underearning is many things, not all of which are about money. Underearning is about
underachieving, or under-being, no matter how much money we make. It is about the inability to fully acknowledge and express our capabilities and competencies. The visible consequence is the inability to provide for one’s needs, including future needs. Our underearning can result from many things, including not acknowledging our talents. It can result from living on the edge by not making enough money, spending most of the money we have, avoiding healthy risks that can move our lives forward, and not preparing for the future. Underearning is about not living up to our unique potential, not following through on our dreams and goals. It’s about giving up on ourselves."
Underearners Anonymous Pamphlet
Jen Kirkman is an American stand-up comedian, television writer and actress, best known for her regular appearances on late-night talk show Chelsea Lately, and the HBO television series Drunk History. In 2011, she wrote for the NBC sitcom Perfect Couples. She is currently on a writer on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
