In 1954, Daniel Wood Jr. left his Gray, Maine home, to go fishing with friends. Shortly after he left, he called his mother from a nearby corner store, to let her know that he had been offered a part time job selling needle kits door to door. When Daniel didn't arrive home for dinner that night, his parents reported him as missing. Nine days later, his body was discovered floating in the Little Androscoggin river, and he had been brutally beaten to death. Despite numerous suspects, a thorough investigation, and an odd letter being sent all across Gray, Maine, his murder has never been solved.

He had only left his son's Oregon farm 26 hours before, destined for his home in Wisconsin. Months later, Dexter's body was discovered under a mattress in a Montana landfill, and had been there since the day of his disappearance. Strangely, his items were found with him, but had only been placed in the landfill days prior to his discovery.
