What If Your Mom Encouraged You to Drink? Rachel R's Story
Explicit content warning
06/14/22 • 41 min
Do you have a parent that struggles with addiction? Rachel, this week's guest, knows exactly what that is like. Rachel grew up in an impoverished community where drugs, alcohol, and teenage pregnancy ran rampant. Even though recognized that drinking was problematic, she got swept up in addictive and self-deprecating behavior after a breakup with a serious boyfriend. After years of binge drinking, her hangover symptoms were becoming more and more severe. Rachel had finally had enough. One day, while nursing yet another horrible hangover, she asked God for help. Rachel knew that when she asked for help from the universe, she was moving in the right direction. She went on to purchase quit lit and healing crystals to help her on her journey to sobriety. She also began the heavy work of exploring the trauma from her childhood. Eventually, Rachel realized that she wanted to help other women going through the same struggles she had gone through. She became a coach through A Sober Girl's Guide and holds weekly support circles where she listens to and validates the experiences of others. Listen to Rachel's heart-wrenching but beautiful story today.

What If Everyone Around You Used Alcohol to Cope? Kenneth's Story
Are you or is someone you love in the military? Would you agree that alcohol is a massive problem for many of our servicemen and women? Kenneth, this week's guest, would wholeheartedly agree with you. Even after multiple stints in rehab and spending some time at a homeless shelter, it still took years for Kenneth to admit that he actually had a problem with alcohol. After leaving the military he continued to drink heavily and then, his health took a turn for the worse. His mother looked at her youngest child and asked him what she needed to do to help him because she did not want to bury her son. This conversation snapped Kenneth into recognizing he needed to do better for himself and his family. Kenneth went back to school, earned his Master's degree, studied abroad in South Africa, and wrote a best-selling book titled "The 12 Faces of Sober"! Listen to his story now.

What If You Created A Party Boy Persona That You Couldn't Escape From? Luc's Story
Athletic, well-spoken, charismatic, successful... you would never have known Luc had a problem with alcohol. But behind Luc's personal successes, he was, in fact, struggling. By creating this outlandish, overly gregarious persona while he drank, he felt internal pressure to play this self-destructive role in all social situations. So...that meant drinking in all social situations. When Luc and his wife decided that having a baby was in their near future, he realized he needed to change his life if he was going to be a good dad. Luc started attending counseling. After only a few sessions, his therapist looked him straight in the eye and told Luc he needed to stop drinking alcohol completely. Luc left the session and cried in his car because he knew in his heart of hearts that what the therapist told him was true. Luc is now over 5 years sober, competes in marathons, and is the proud father of a beautiful daughter that has NEVER seen her dad drink. Listen to Luc's powerful story today!
