What If Alcohol Was Keeping You from Your Authentic Self? Matt's Story
As a kid, when Matt saw his outgoing, uninhibited peers talk to girls or dance like idiots on tabletops, he was jealous. Why couldn't he be like that? Why couldn't he do those things? Why was he so shy and awkward?? Then, he discovered the power of booze. Alcohol put its arm around Matt's shoulder and said, "Actually, buddy, you can do those things. I'm here to help." For the next twenty-plus years, Matt used alcohol to cope with a wide array of emotions and social situations. He drank to bring himself out of his shell, he drank because he was in a rock band and that's what rockstars do, and he drank to tamp down anxiety and fear. After a years-long sober stint ended with a miserable attempt to moderate his drinking, Matt had a heart-to-heart with himself. Was he going to allow for yet another generation of his family to die young because of alcohol, or would the buck stop with him? You NEED to listen to Matt's compelling story! **If you are interested in sober coaching, make sure to check out Matt's website!**

What If You Chose to Walk Away from Everything You Thought You Wanted? Nicole's Story
Nicole's addictive habits began long before she ever took a sip of alcohol or tried drugs. Even as a little girl, she just didn't feel comfortable in her own skin. Growing up with emotionally unavailable parents, she didn't feel she could turn to them when she was first molested as a child and then abused by her boyfriend when she was a teen. She began experimenting with drugs and alcohol but swore up and down that she would never use hard drugs. It didn't take long for Nicole to breeze through these boundaries she thought she could maintain. Before long, she was using and selling hard drugs, stealing, and taking advantage of family members to meet her addiction's needs. Nicole reached her rock bottom when she held a gun to her head and contemplated suicide. She wasn't eating, she wasn't taking care of herself, and she couldn't even stand to look in the mirror at her own reflection. Fate intervened that day as she held that gun to her head and it was then that she made the decision to turn her life around. Nicole is now the proud mom of two beautiful little boys, helps run a successful recovery center in the Fort Lauderdale area of Florida, and is soon to walk down the aisle with her fiance. Listen to how Nicole turned her life around on this powerful episode of A Sober Story Podcast!
