When I say the word “posture,” do you immediately feel your body tense and gravitate to an unnatural, uncomfortable position? We often hear this advice about maintaining a rigid posture with certain key elements, but Sukie Baxter joins us to discuss why those misconceptions of posture are harmful and how she defines it instead. Sukie tells us that the way we move our bodies is the way we move through life and that finding a healthy posture is often the key to pain relief and healthy aging.

- The benefits of addressing movement dysfunction before we’re in pain and some key warning signs
- How to use your body to talk to your mind
- Why we should pay attention to the cues we get from our body, both good and bad, and ways to respond to those cues
- The relationship between posture and breath as well as keys to using breath as an assessment tool for the body

Rising from the Ashes of Burnout
Being successful does not necessarily bring happiness. For my guest Dr. Andrea Pennington, it did the exact opposite: it burned her out, and stifled her spark to the point of deep depression, and cut her off from herself in profound ways. Thankfully, she found her way back.
When I stumbled across this fellow Chinese Medicine and qi gong practitioner's work, and learned we shared a passion for blending paradigms, biohacking and evangelizing self-love, I immediately reached out to get this multi-passionate powerhouse on the show. We talk about:
- falling into the "success trap:" how getting everything she wanted made her miserable
- how a profound spiritual experience rescued her from a deep depression
- why self-awareness is a pre-requisite for self-love
- the connection between happiness and authentic self-expression
- how qi gong helped her connect to self-love
- how identifying as consciousness itself fosters self-compassion
Dr. Andrea Pennington is an integrative physician, acupuncturist, meditation teacher and #1 international bestselling author of several books on resilience, mindfulness and self-love. Dr. Andrea’s extensive study of medical nutrition, positive psychology and longevity biohacking led her to create a holistic media platform, In8Vitality, blending ancient wisdom and modern science for enhanced vitality and life mastery. As Co-founder of the #RealSelfLove Movement Andrea speaks globally to reduce the stigma of mental illness and to support people on their journey to authentic living Andrea is also a highly acclaimed TEDx speaker. Dr. Andrea has shared her candid insights on resilience on the Oprah Winfrey Show, the Dr. Oz Show, CNN, the Today Show, LUXE-TV, Thrive Global and HuffingtonPost and as a news anchor for Discovery Health Channel.

Overcoming Limiting Beliefs
As humans, we’ve evolved to have strong, often unconscious reactions to thoughts and situations that might cause us to be in danger. Sometimes we end up internalizing those thoughts and they become limiting beliefs that impact us far beyond what we might initially realize. Lael Petersen shared some great insights in our conversation about these beliefs as well as why they’re so common and nothing to feel shame around.
On Today’s Episode of A Healthy Curiosity:
- How to identify limiting beliefs
- Techniques to help make the unconscious conscious and start changing beliefs
- Why this is a process that takes practice and can be slow
- The value of immersing yourself in ideas and visualizing the things that help you become the person you want to be.
Lael Petersen is a therapist turned life coach with over 18 years of experience helping women and their families thrive. Her years in private practice combined with her own personal healing journey give her a unique perspective on what it takes to "live our best lives." She currently leads an on-line community of women dedicated to prioritizing their health and mental health and sees clients privately as well.
