06/02/22 • 60 min
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. In line with honoring those who are dealing with any sort of mental illness (patient or caregivers), Marc & Tavarus have a very candid conversation with licensed Mental Health Professional and CEO of Step by Step 4 Help (https://step-by-step4help.com/), Dr. Desiree Jones. Not only does she bring sheer Connoisseurship to the conversation, but she's also the first guest speaker on the show!
Dr. Jones has years of experience in this space and has dedicated her life to addressing the needs of those living with mental illness and promoting the overall mental health of all Americans. She shares with our audience some of her personal story and how she came into this line of work, as well as other invaluable information about her journey as a mental health care professional.
Dr. Jones has a God-given passion to bring awareness to communities and people groups everywhere, however her heart bleeds for African American and other disenfranchised communities who don't normally have access to this information nor resources to help them cope with and normalize mental health.
Marc and Tavarus also share very personal stories about how they've each overcome (and are still working through) some of their very own brushes with mental health and its impact.
This episode unveils the importance of:
- Reversing stigmatization
- Early detection
- Mental illness and how it plays out
- Where to go to get help
- What does "listen with your eyes" mean?
- What are some triggers that often spark bouts of mental illness?
- Is there a cure?
- What treatment options are there?
- Where does one find community and belonging in this space?
- And much more....
