Today's episode isn't a coaching session. It's a very honest conversation with one of my Protégés.
Before becoming a coach, Mark Silverman generated over $90 million in complex tech sales in the corporate world and worked at numerous rapid growth startups.
He sought me out as his coach and he became a member of my community.
Mark is now making over $200K a year as a coach and working with dream clients. His first book sold over 50,000 copies and he is working on his second. However, it definitely was not always like this.
Once he began working with me, he quite quickly created a 6-figure income but that didn't cover the expenses of his former lifestyle. And he went through quite a challenging time for a while.
Listen to the end and you’re here Mark share about the frightening moment when he realized he was spending more money from cashing in his 401(k) than from coaching income...
Mark asked me if he could share the – very raw and real – ups and downs of his story with you and I immediately said yes.
Most coaches I meet who have come from the corporate world are very clear that they want to leave it behind. But a handful still love the world they come from and Mark’s success as a coach transforms the moment he has the insight, “I love wearing a suit. And I love to work in glass buildings!”

If you do what everyone else is doing, right now, you'll get the same results as everyone else...
Shelley is a high-level leader but at her heart, she's a rebel. So, it's ESSENTIAL that she does things differently. But it's important that YOU do things differently, too.

S16EP21: Boundaries (Replay)
1 Insight
Christopher Maher is a former Navy SEAL, a former Olympic athlete and a member of 4PC. We have actually coached one another for over 8 years. And I use his techniques almost every day, to remove stress from my system—physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.
Today I coach Christopher over how to live a life on his own terms, while still making a big difference in the world and for his clients.
Notice how I say very little but guide the conversation enough so that he has his own insight...

I grew up in London, where some nights it was so foggy I could only see a few yards ahead in front of my face. Despite the darkness and the fog, I could still regularly drive the 10 miles to my home.
Life is much like that. It would be nice to have clarity 10 years into the future about exactly what's going to happen but it doesn't really work like that.
Today I mess with the thinking of two successful coaches and business owners. I show them that they are looking for clarity in the wrong direction!
You and your clients are probably doing so, too...

Rich loves his job because he gets paid to dig around in people’s minds. More specifically, he helps people change their view and path in life by guiding them to shift their mindset. Rich has the pleasure of helping two people, Matt and Cathy, to shift their mindsets. Matt is a former VP at a major sports league who he has created multi-million dollar deals. He is looking for value in his time and to find belief in himself. Cathy is a former head of digital marketing during a 14-year, 6-figure salary career in the corporate world, a cancer survivor, and an all-around giver. Being the giver that she is, asking for that monetary value for her coaching services has become a personal struggle for her. Rich is able to shed some light on their greatest competition, the status quo, so that they experience their own moments of insight. These insights will undoubtedly change the futures of their coaching businesses.
In today’s episode:
- Matt’s desired aspects for his future coaching business
- Expressing the value of your time to your clients
- Making up stuff about numbers in your own head
- Coming from a place of compassion and sharing in coaching
- Giving, taking, and matching in life
- Selling clients on the experience of coaching
- Spending too much money to learn about coaching instead of the business of coaching
- Why they are not saying yes
- Competing with the status quo
- Asking powerful questions in order to vet clients
- Committing to staying in your own zone of genius
List of resources:
Here's a powerful article on the difference between coaches who succeed vs coaches who struggle: https://richlitvin.com/successful-coach-or-struggling-coach/
