Podcaster Q&A

Tell us about yourself – what is your background?

I'm an Entomologist who started writing and recording music for fun and for LARP games. I started working on voice and audio editing for ACX right before the pandemic and moved those skills to a TTRPG podcast shortly after. I've been doing sound, music, voices, and literally every part of production ever since and love using those skills to help people tell stories

Why did you get into podcasting?

I never really knew audiodrama was a thing until I started working on a high production value TTRPG. I started listening to popular shows trying to understand how sound and music played a role in it. Once I heard how shows like Old Gods, The Milkman of Saint Gaffs or Dark Dice worked how could I not want to join the community and share something I made

How did the idea for the show come about?

I really wanted to keep working on shows but the current project I was involved with was starting to fall apart. I decided I would make my own instead of waiting for someone to offer me a job. I reached out to some writer friends to see if any of them could meet my criteria for an audiodrama and October's Children was the first idea to meet all my requirements as well as offer me a shot at sound designing some horror element's.

What do you hope listeners take from the show?

October's Children was always supposed to be a story about chosen family and about standing up against fascism in any form. The characters in the show regularly have to deal with the choice to put themselves in very real danger to protect what they care about. We hope that people can see themselves in our diverse cast and that it might help with their own struggles in this dark time

What's been the biggest challenge for you?

For sure designing action scenes in a horror show that can come across clearly. Especially when monsters start getting involved. Adding motion to the sound will forever be the name of my existence and also something I now cannot live without

How can your listeners support your show?

You can make a donation on Patreon or Ko-Fi We put all of our budget into paying our cast because we fully believe people deserve to be paid for their work. By supporting the show you can help make the show pay for itself and ensure we can keep making more episodes quicker.

Any future plans that you'd like to share?

We're of course talking about the next season of October's Children. A lot of it will come down to how much money we're able to raise for it.

Anything else you'd like to share?

You can find October's Children Apparel on our Spring store (link on our Twitter) You can also follow us there to get updates on episode production
