Women & ADHD - Dr. Lola Day: Is ADHD really a superpower?

Dr. Lola Day: Is ADHD really a superpower?

05/17/21 • 63 min

Women & ADHD

Episode 34 with Dr. Lola Day.

"We're hyperactive in our minds. We may be quiet, but we're thinking about 1,001 different things."

Dr. Day is double boarded pediatric and fetal cardiologist as well as a productivity and work life strategist for women who have ADHD.

As someone who did very well in school and was top of her class, so never thought she could have ADHD. But she also knew she really struggled with tasks that were mundane and was constantly down on herself for not achieving everything with the same fervor and enthusiasm as she did medicine.

We talk about the stigmas surrounding ADHD, especially in the medical field, as well as the notion of ADHD being a superpower and how it can be problematic if we’re not willing to address the very real struggles women face, including the trauma of living life undiagnosed. Lola calls those struggles our kryptonite, and her goal is to help other women hone their strengths while targeting their kryptonite so they can create strategies for success and balance in their lives. Lola is incredible, so sit back and enjoy!

Jess Keogh: The trouble with relaxation

Episode 33 with Jess Keogh.

"I hate relaxing. I really have to force myself to relax."

Jess Keogh is the founder of The Body Positive, a counseling practice built on the principles of unconditional self-acceptance and body positivity. Jess is a qualified mental health and counseling professional with a degree in Psychological Science and a Bachelor’s degree in Communications.

Jess first sought out her own ADHD diagnosis after reading some of my ADHD posts on Instagram and feeling like they were VERY relatable. We talk all about her own hunch that she might have ADHD and how she slowly put the pieces together, and how her own ADHD has shown up throughout her schooling, career, and motherhood. Jess is such an amazing soul and we basically laugh our way through this whole interview. Enjoy!

Eir Atla: Herbs for ADHD and the joys of being a nomad

Episode 35 with Eir Atla.

"I kept wondering: Is everyone else struggling with this, or is it just a 'me thing'?"

Eir spent 15 years as a nurse, and about 10 years ago she got more involved in herbs when she was experiencing a health problem that wasn’t being properly managed with modern medicine. Herbs helped her tremendously during that time, and since then she has completed three degrees in herbalism and now helps other women who struggle with health issues such as endometriosis, fibromyalgia, PCOS, IBS and of course ADHD.

Eir and I also talk all about what it was like to have undiagnosed ADHD while in such a stressful job like nursing, and I grill her all about how she and he husband decided to chuck it all and move into a camper to live a nomadic life with their children, their dogs and even a parrot in tow.

Eir is a font of information when it comes to herbs and ADHD, so I would suggest you get a pen and paper handy for this episode. Enjoy!
