Today’s guest is Deanna Seymour, a color-loving graphic designer and host of The Playhouse, a community for creative solopreneurs who want to grow their business through the power of collaboration.

Deanna is all about being your unique self in your business. She shares her story of how she went from being an art teacher to starting her online business, and how she looked to all the business mentors for advice until she decided to start breaking the rules and do business her own way.

We also talk about experimenting and testing out different ideas, even if you don’t have a completely structured plan and don’t know where it might lead you. For example, hosting networking parties when she wanted a break from podcasting or taking the risk of being open about spending money on courses that didn’t pay off, and then she turned that into a way to connect with her community.

Deanna believes in keeping content creation simple, with emphasis on what’s fun and what works for you. I hope this episode inspires you to think about having more fun in your own business and content creation!

At the time of recording this interview, Content Playhouse was available for enrolment, but currently it isn't. Since then, Deanna has launched The Playhouse, "a grassroots business-building collective for freethinking, creative solopreneurs". I’ve been part of the community since its launch, and I’m loving it!

From multi-billion-dollar tech companies like IBM to executive leadership coaches and even an international churro franchise, she has written content for over 300 businesses.

She uses ethical marketing to help people tell their stories and make money with their content.

She also explains why it was a competitive advantage for her to have a background in humanities rather than marketing.
