Ep.195 "Some People Journal, I Create Songs" W/ Treasure Bloom
"What's Good?" W/ Charlie Taylor
09/02/22 • 57 min
In what is only my 2nd in-person interview for the Pod, we link up with dual threat artist, Treasure Bloom. Those who follow my photography, know that I discovered TB off the back of his support act for other #FriendOf5E, Otis Mensah. (2nd Interview with Otis off the back of that show can be spun here.)
Now, a few months after, we link with Treasure Bloom to have food outside the Camden Diner and discuss his beginnings, how he found his taste in Metal music, how those roots brought helped him become the Treasure Bloom he is today and - of course - his Top 5.
And on top of the interview, I got to see him that night for a showcase of Alt R&B talent. You can find that story and photos on my photography site. It's dropping in conjunction with this episode.

Ep.279 - Ultra-Processed Foods & Rain
"What's Good?" W/ Charlie Taylor
05/29/24 • 74 min
In a week where:
- Ireland, Norway & Spain recognise Palestine as a State.
- Rishi Sunak FINALLY calls a General Election for 4th July.
- Super Size Me director Morgan Spurlock dies aged 53.
- Man United beat Man City in The FA Cup Final.
- An Israeli air strike in Rafah kills 45 Palestinians & injuries more.
In Politics: (12:21) With the General Election FINALLY coming and the Tories surely to fuck off for at minimum five years, it's time to already say goodbye to the Rwanda scheme since no planes are going until after the election. (Article By Ash Sarkar)
In Food: (22:34) Ultra-processed foods are and have been a consistent element in a lot of people's lives, especially for the working class. So why hasn't the clampdown on UPFs happened yet? Oh right, corporations... (Article By Madeleine Speed, Ella Hollowood and Sarah Neville)
In Environment: (51:31) There is no better way to scare a British person than to create a world where it could be raining all the time... Wait... IT COULD BE RAINING ALL THE TIME BY 2034?! (Article By Eleanor Peake)
Lastly, in Photography: (1:01:27) A new photobook has dropped and it's one of the most important stories in our current time: depicting the lives of Palestinians pre-Nakba. (Article By Azad Essa)

Ep.254 - Cruise Ships & Killers Of The Flower Moon
"What's Good?" W/ Charlie Taylor
11/23/23 • 64 min
In a week where:
- Sean Combs settles a civil case within 24 hours of being accused of rape and severe physical abuse by former girlfriend Cassie.
- OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is fired only to be then hired by Microsoft.
- Kool & The Gang drummer George "Funky" Brown dies at 74.
- Far-Right libertarian Javier Milei wins Argentinian Presidential election.
- Happy 5th birthday "What's Good?"!
In Environment: (5:35) I was never into the idea of cruise ships when I was younger for a myriad of reasons, but with increasing evidence that cruise ships are THE worst when it comes to the environment - including this story about them not using long-established power sources - it's clear they got to go.
In Tech: (20:57) With Twitter getting worse by the day, it's beginning to show that there's a widening gap in the Social Media/News landscape. So what are the ramifications of a deteriorating news landscape?
In Politics: (37:53) Of all the reasons to hate Politics these days, one huge reason is the lack of empathy and how it only comes into play when it suits politicians.
Lastly, in Film: (49:12) I briefly talked about "Killers of the Flower Moon" a few episodes ago and the likes of Scorsese have since talked about the main issue with the film: A non-Osage, telling an Osage story. So am I being extra?

- Israeli forces rescue four hostages from the central Gaza Strip at the expense of 210 Palestinian lives.
- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is sworn in for a third term.
- The European Parliamentary Elections go down.
- Macron dissolves French parliament and calls snap election.
In Environment: (7:22) The term "Net-Zero" is - in my mind - an easy concept to grasp and should be at the top of our minds. But apparently it's impossible for financial reasons. Well, let us de-bullshit Net-Zero. (Article By Anupama Sen & Sam Fankhauser)
In Society: (20:32) I've had moments in my life where energy drinks were a lifesaver, cans of human jet fuel with varying taste profiles. But like most fun things, kids shouldn't have them. So how bad are energy drinks? (Article By David Cox)
In Music: (38:54) Kendrick Lamar's "Not Like Us" is borderline a cultural phenomenon at this point and nothing confirms that notion than the way it's already getting played in American Sport events. (Article By Keith Murphy)
Lastly, In Life: (52:21) I've long believed that life is just a chain of memories with monotony in the middle. Some of us keep memories, some of us forget them. So how much is a memory worth? (Article By Mike Troxell)

- The 2024 Olympics comes to a close.

In Education: (8:11) A story I've wanted to talk about for over a month has been a sect of schools experimenting banning phones during schooltime. Me strongly agreeing might be my most conservative take... (Article By Nora Redmond)
In Space: (19:28) One story that I felt went under the radar last week is the fact that two people are stranded in space until 2025. They were only meant to be in space for EIGHT DAYS. So what happened? (Article By Jake Levison)
In... Palaeontology: (30:55) I saw recently that some fossils got copped for a King's Ransom. It begs the question: Why are fossils worth so much? (Article By Katherine Laidlaw)
Lastly, in Sports: (46:37) The 2024 Olympics are done which means it's time for a little debrief! My favourite moments, TeamGB's overall result and a bit of zooming out as the countdown to LA28 begins in earnest.

Ep.71 - "Hackney Market, School & McDonalds" W/ Ric Flo (Part 1)
"What's Good?" W/ Charlie Taylor
04/02/20 • 59 min
Last year I went to see the legendary Masta Ace @ The Jazz Cafe. Supporting him was a trio hailing from Bournemouth that set the tone so nicely with their Hip-Hop style. I've been a fan of Jungle Brown ever since.
And I'm so blessed to give you this interview where I talk to 1/3 of the group. Ric Flo, lyricist & graphic designer comes through to talk with so much detail that I had to split the interview into two parts!
In this half, we talk about his beginnings, how he grew up as a product of 'farming', how he found escape and purpose in drawing & writing rhymes and how he went from a solo act in the South of England to being a member of the group that we now know as Jungle Brown.
Part 2 coming right up... Stay tuned.

Ep.193 - Mick Lynch & Skin Whitening
"What's Good?" W/ Charlie Taylor
08/25/22 • 65 min
In a week where:
- Spain suffer days of wildfires.
- Cineworld prepares to file for bankruptcy.
- European Championships finish up.
- Oleksandr Usyk beats Anthony Joshua via Split Decision to retain Heavyweight Titles.
- Singapore will remove ban on gay marriage.
In Sports: (11:44) The European Championships end the six-week barrage of major champs in Athletics circles, the last word being one that has been echoed in recent years: female athletes & menstruation.
In Politics: (24:34) There are many people that I pray to have a downfall; one is Michael Gove who has come out of frontbench politics "clean" but don't get it twisted, his legacy should be noted as unashamedly crap.
In the first of two Society segment: (36:15) We've gassed the General Secretary of the RMT Mick Lynch before, and the longer the strike summer goes, the more we get to know the defacto face of the strike summer.
Lastly, in the 2nd Society segment: (52:10) Skin whitening is a billion dollar industry that preys on black people around the world; but now, those products are becoming lethal and giving even more irreparable damage.

In Politics: (6:02) Kwame Ture, fka Stokely Carmichael, was a big supporter of the UK Black Power movement back in the day; and whilst we could've guessed this, it's now been found that the UK government had a secret unit to weaken the movement.
In the 1st of three Society segments: (18:50) The Windrush Scandal continues to elongate as only 1% of claimants have a successful appeal. But why are the people that committed the crime, deciding the compensation?
In the 2nd Society segment: (29:55) Another word on policing as a whole, where we ask the question, do the police actually succeed in their job? Which is to solve crimes?
Finally, in the 3rd segment: (49:59) With The Queen now laid to rest, WE CAN FINALLY HAVE THE CONVERSATION ABOUT ABOLISHING THE MONARCHY!

Ep.68 - "Everything & Nothing" W/ Tianna Madison
"What's Good?" W/ Charlie Taylor
03/12/20 • 80 min
In the second interview of three, I catch up with a modern-day legend of Athletics. Multiple Olympic Gold Medallist & World Record holder Tianna Bartoletta.
I interviewed her over two years ago and since then, Tianna has made a concerted effort to elevate in life as well as a professional athlete. Becoming a practitioner of Yoga, writing a memoir and giving back to the athletes of the future.
The first paragraph of platitudes is what people will know off the bat, but it's her humility & passion for growth that makes her inspirational in more ways than one. Regardless if you follow Athletics or not, there's plenty of gems to take here.
