In this raw and often heartbreaking episode, we hear how Shay Leonia had to witness the slow demise of her mother who was diagnosed with dementia when Shay was only 9 years old, and her mother was in her Forties! There is still so much that is unknown about FTD, the specific disease in question, which is the deterioration of the brain's frontal lobe. Shay discusses the journey through watching her mother literally slip away, and eventually die, (when Shay was 13) which was beyond traumatizing. Stay with us here, because as with all of our episodes, we go on the journey through these life changing events. Shay was placed in a home and then with her older brother as her Father was not around, she was an orphan. With all this loss and abandonment, not surprisingly, there was relationship trouble ahead. The journey of recovery through the next few years, up to today, is an absolutely unmissable story. Thank you Shay. You are an inspiration!
