Well, That F*cked Me Up! Surviving Life Changing Events.
10/19/23 • 47 min
At age 39 this year, Ben K visited an ENT specialist due to lifelong sinus and hearing issues. During the examination, the doctor was puzzled by the presence of bone spurs in his nose. The Doctor asked Ben, 'has there ever been any facial trauma in your past'? The answer came during a Mother's Day lunch with his mom a few days later. What Ben found out from his Mother that day changed everything, and is truly jaw-dropping. Details emerged about his life or death, traumatic birth, that had never been relayed to him! A lifetime nose and ear problems, hearing and breathing issues, but the truth had been hidden at Ben's birth! We discuss more of the details in the episode, but Ben has now embarked on surgery to address his sinus and septum problems, followed by a procedure to reconstruct his jaw, which was also impacted by his birth trauma. The mental and emotional toll of my traumatic birth has also been significant. This episode not only discusses the physical turmoil that Ben has had to endure for decades, but the emotional struggle Ben has now been facing as he tries to make peace with the fact this information was withheld from him, seemingly to protect him? Its a very complex and heartfelt episode, and thoroughly engaging from start to finish!

Well, That F*cked Me Up! Surviving Life Changing Events.
02/24/22 • 43 min
TRIGGER WARNING: Drug addiction and suicide.
Of all the episodes we have had so far on our Podcast journey, this may be one of the heaviest, so we do recommend listener discretion. Please know that we have kept in the whole story, so we can focus on the strength, courage and hope that comes with going through an experience like this. Our guest Beth, realized that her partner, and father of her young son, was in trouble when she found bottles of Opioids hidden around the house. After another deployment to Afghanistan, his drug use would get so bad that they would separate. His visits to their son would be fewer and further between and it became noticeable he was high each time, to the point that she felt it was unsafe. Eventually, and heartbreakingly, the opioids would turn to heroin, and his story would end in Suicide. We hear about the tragic moments when Beth had to explain to their young son what had happened, and how they started on the journey of grief together, It's utterly devastating, inspiring, and incredibly humbling. Hang in there until the end as we hear how things are now, just 3 years on. Wow.

Stay with us here, because as with all of our episodes, we go on the journey through these life changing events.
