Episode 294: Tom Nook's Timeshare
02/21/20 • 100 min
Grab your shovels and pack your bags because it’s (almost) time for Animal Crossing! Nintendo has dropped a new 25 minute(!) long direct detailing Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and Austin, Gita, and Cado are extremely excited to have a chill time on Nook's island. But first, the crew takes a quick trip to the Politics Corner to talk about the recent, absolutely bonkers Democratic debate. Cado played Wide Ocean, Big Jacket during the debate to help him calm down, a delightful game Patrick reviewed last week before he came down with the flu. Austin, Cado, and Patrick have also been checking out Corruption 2029, the not-as-flavorful follow up to 2018's Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden.
Discussed: Politics 3:04, Wide Ocean Big Jacket 13:24, Corruption 2029 24:14, Animal Crossing Direct 42:13, Covet Fashion 1:22:11, Destiny 1:24:25, No Man's Sky 1:25:17

Bonus: The Sims 20th Anniversary
Over the past twenty years, The Sims has done its best to keep up with a rapidly changing world, and to be more inclusive in terms of what kind of people you can play as. From the first game's notorious same-sex kiss at E3 that lead to the game including same-sex romance in 2000 to The Sims 4's trans-masc icon Morgyn Embers, the franchise has always tried for a maximalist approach to play, including in customizing your character. Gita sat down to interview The Sims 4's executive producer and general manager, Lyndsay Pearson, and talked all about that, and also about their favorite conspiracy theories regarding the disappeared Bella Goth.

Outer Wilds Spoilercast
Outer Wilds came out in 2019, at a time when politics in the US were at their most divisive. And yet, this game managed to be full of hope, and tell a story about community, crisis, and coming to terms with finality. A game where you explore a clockwork solar system might not seem like the best structure to deliver a narrative, but the folks at Mobius Digital managed to make a world that feels alive and full of history, even as it dies time and time again. Join Austin, Patrick, and Cado as they discuss their time exploring the solar system, having existential crises, and finding hope in the future. Stick around after the outro for some game news and a politics corner!
