Waiting on the Trade

Welcome back to Waiting on the Trade, a comics book club for people who don’t have time for monthly comics!

In this episode, guest host Monte Nelson begins our crossover with The SJW Comic Book Club podcast, as we discuss Max Bemis, Michael Walsh, and co.’s X-Men: Worst X-Man Ever.

Explanations, Observations, and Links of Note

  • You may have noticed that this episode is mostly just an excuse for Monte, Pat, and me to bullshit about the X-Men. Given the many, many in-jokes Worst X-Man Ever contains, I think Bemis and co. would approve.
  • I still think Cyclops is the best X-Man. Feel free to send a letter.
  • For those who don’t know who Beak is, here you go. I won’t be giving explainers for any of the other X-Men we mention – they’re either popular enough they don’t need it, or they don’t deserve it.
  • Okay, fine, I’ll link one for Maggot. But that’s it!
  • Poor Beast; he’s so far gone.
  • And yes, Bailey has appeared in the mainline 616 Marvel Universe. It seems Miranda managed to port him over after all ...

Follow-Up Recommendations

Welcome back to Waiting on the Trade: The Dream Journal, a miniseries in which we’re discussing Neil Gaiman and co.’s original run on The Sandman. Joining Pat and myself for this trip through the Dreaming is our friend and frequent guest host Mike Drew.

In this episode, we’ve each brought a discussion question prompted by our read of Volume Three: Dream Country.

This Month’s Discussion Questions:

  1. If we consider these stories to be cautionary tales, what is Gaiman trying to warn us about?
  2. What is the most horrific action in this volume?
  3. Who is more powerful, Death or Dream?

Did you enjoy our discussion? If so, let us know by leaving us a review on your podcasting app of choice.

The Sandman: Season of Mists

Welcome back to Waiting on the Trade: The Dream Journal, a miniseries in which we’re discussing Neil Gaiman and co.’s original run on The Sandman. Joining Pat and myself for this particular trip through the Dreaming is not only our friend and frequent guest host Mike Drew, but also Veronica of The SJW Comic Book Club podcast.

In this episode, we’ve each brought a discussion question prompted by our read of Volume Four: Season of Mists.

This Month’s Discussion Questions:

  1. Are you satisfied with the resolution of Nada’s story?
  2. What effect do you think Lucifer’s abdication has on Dream, from a character development standpoint?
  3. Who would you have given Hell to (besides God)?
  4. As a refugee from Hell, which of the realms that we see would you migrate to?

Did you enjoy our discussion? If so, let us know by leaving us a review on your podcasting app of choice. And if you enjoyed Veronica’s time on the podcast, be sure to let her know at The SJW Comic Book Club‘s Twitter account.
