Veteran's Concierge - A Memorial Day Tribute: Billy Jean and Marcus

A Memorial Day Tribute: Billy Jean and Marcus

05/25/23 • 8 min

Veteran's Concierge

On this episode of Veteran's Concierge, I want to share a heartfelt story as we approach Memorial Day. It's crucial to remember those lost in combat and to mental health struggles after service. Let's set an extra place at barbecues and order a beer for them—a small gesture with profound meaning.

I personally know the pain of war. Our unit lost two really good people, soldiers in a helicopter crash while deployed in Iraq. Their memories linger, reminding me of their sacrifice. Memorial Day should be more than just the beginning of summer—it's a day of remembrance.

Memorial Day is not just about those who have fallen, but also about those who have returned, carrying the invisible scars of war. We must not overlook the mental health struggles that many veterans face. So, in addition to honoring the fallen, I implore each and every one of you to reach out to your friends, your brothers and sisters in arms, who may be silently battling their own demons. A simple act of compassion, a heartfelt conversation, can provide the support and understanding they desperately need.

Join me this Memorial Day to remember, support, and cherish those who gave everything. May their bravery guide us in building a world worthy of their sacrifice.

DO YOU STILL MISS IT?

In this episode of my podcast, the Veterans Concierge Podcast, I want to share my personal experiences serving in the military as an IT sergeant. Throughout my time in the military, I had the opportunity to work with various branches. It was an incredible journey that shaped me into who I am today.

One of the things I reflect on is the camaraderie I experienced while serving in the military. There's something special about the bond between service members that is hard to replicate in civilian life. I wonder if any of you, my listeners, feel the same way. Do you miss that sense of camaraderie as well?

I believe it's crucial to stay connected with our fellow service members even after we leave the military. Reaching out to a "battle buddy" when we need support can make a significant difference in our lives. The understanding and shared experiences we have can be a source of strength and comfort.

While there are certain aspects of military life that I miss, such as the strong sense of community, I can't say I miss waking up and doing PT every morning. It's one of those things that many of us are happy to leave behind. But hey, that's just my personal take on it.

In this episode, I pose an interesting question: Do you still miss wearing a military uniform? I do and despite the challenges and sacrifices, serving in the military is an extraordinary and fulfilling experience that should be cherished.

So, let's dive into this episode and explore the unique aspects of military life, the bonds we form, and the memories we carry with us. I hope you find this discussion insightful and relatable, whether you have served in the military yourself or have loved ones who have. Let's celebrate the military community and the incredible individuals who have served our country.
