UnYielded: Thriving No Matter What
Bobbi Kahler
Life doesn’t get easier. We get stronger.
When I was younger, I was under the illusion that life was supposed to be easy. That led me to believe that I was doing something wrong.
I was missing the inherent truth that life has challenges, life has adversity and life presents obstacles but those aren’t sent to us to defeat us or punish us.
They are sent to us to refine us: our strength, our wisdom and the beauty of our character.
Once I understood this, life FELT easier and I became better at surfing the tides of life. (Better, not perfect. I still wipe out.)
Life will occasionally knock you down. This podcast will help you get back up - stronger and better than before!

Completely transforming your life and turning it around in a good way may sometimes seem impossible, but it’s not. My guest today is an excellent example to that. He spent 33 months in federal prison and once he was released, he changed his life around and became an inspiring person who made it his mission to help people change the way they view the emotions they have about themselves. Mark Moskowitz, speaker, coach, and author of the upcoming book, “Within: How I Found My Happy and Authentic Self in Federal Prison,” joins us today to dive into the learnings from his journey of transformation.
Mark’s Story – Life is seldom a bed of roses. We all have seen our fair share of disturbances and so has Mark. Mark opens up about his life story, the events that led him to end up in federal prison, how he turned his life around after that, and most importantly the learnings from the whole experience.
Authenticity and Self-esteem – We talk about how developing self-esteem and authenticity helped Mark turn his life around and a couple of books that resonated with him and lead him to key realizations about himself.
Obstacles – “There's really almost no harder path than having a conviction,” said Mark, describing his career trajectory after the conviction. Although we have lots of regulations to counter these issues, it’s a lot harder for people with convictions to move forward in their professional work. We talk about how Mark was able to overcome all these obstacles that were in his path.
Mark’s Book – Mark’s Book, “Within: How I Found My Happy and Authentic Self in Federal Prison,” is set to release in the spring of 2022. We talk about what inspired Mark to write his book, and the valuable lessons he has included in the book.
Baby Steps – Mark is a big believer of making small changes in our current situation that makes us happy. We talk about how we can implement this practice in our lives.

From Crisis Comes Purpose
UnYielded: Thriving No Matter What
09/15/21 • 56 min
Health challenges can oftentimes be huge obstacles to our lives, and when conventional methods of healing fail to help us with our health challenges, we might find ourselves in extremely difficult situations. My guest today is someone who survived through this sort of a challenge and ultimately became a healer himself. Ari Gronich, Performance Therapist Educator Consultant, best-selling author, and the host of Create A New Tomorrow Podcast, joins us today to talk about how a crisis may become the catalyst to finding purpose.
Surviving Crisis – When Ari was a young adult, he went through several medical complexities and, at some point, was misdiagnosed, causing more trouble. We talk about the long journey it took for Ari to recover and how that influenced him to find new paths of healing.
Helping Athletes – One of the things Ari focuses on now is helping athletes achieve their goals. We dive into his approach to working with athletes and how he strategically helps them overcome their weaknesses.
Value of Community – Ari shares his perspective on why we need to have a community of trusted people around us, how modern media and other innovations have affected our sense of community, and how we can create better connections with other human beings.
Bubbles of Negativity – Another interesting point Ari brings up is that we often find ourselves in bubbles of negativity because negative stories grab more attention from the world. We talk about why we need to spread more stories about all the good things that are happening around us.
Addressing Trauma – Ari shares his thoughts on how trauma affects us, how trauma lives in our body, and why we should address where trauma lives in order to reduce the way trauma affects our lives efficiently.
Doing Better – Ari points out that the vast majority of the things around us and concepts and philosophies we’re used to are man-made and that we can change these things. We dive into how to create a better environment for mankind by changing these man-made things in a way that creates better outcomes.

Revitalize Every Day for Peace and Growth
UnYielded: Thriving No Matter What

Your daily practices are your medicine. All you’ve got to do is slow down, tune in and listen to your body by implementing practices that will keep you in balance. You know yourself better than anyone: who are you at your core? What are those enduring character strengths and qualities that are uniquely part of who you are? What is your vision of who you want to become? All these thoughts were triggered by today’s guest, Andrea Claassen, an Ayurvedic Wellness Counselor, Personal Trainer, Yoga Teacher, and Wild Woman Project Circle Leader. Andrea’s mission is to help women slow down, tune in, and connect to their divine body wisdom. She is also the host of the Peaceful Power Podcast, where she delivers actionable takeaways to live a more holistic lifestyle.
Sister Science of Yoga – Originated in India over 5000 years ago, Ayurveda is a holistic system, explains Andrea. She talks about the popularity of the staples present in Ayurveda and some practices like Dry Brushing Neti Pot in the West because they do work.
Spending Time Alone – In her mid-20s, Andrea was reluctant to spending time alone. She discusses the possible causes for this, including the hesitation to deal with emotions that are hidden, which led her to just shove emotions down and stay busy doing her thing, keeping her mind off anything that’s uncomfortable.
Healing Journey – Andrea talks about how some clients who gravitated towards her were also from the same age group, and a lot of them had the same hidden emotions. Hence, through personal training, she shared a lot about herself in order to make them feel comfortable sharing about themselves in return. This was their healing journey.
Lack of Margin – The margin between working professionally and taking some time off work for personal reasons of relaxing is where the magic is at, says Andrea. She realized that there’s something in her life that’s calling her to slow down, similar to something in terms of Ayurveda called the Vata dosha, the wind element; when one got a lot going on, they realize they need to ground down and end up slowing down.
Slowing Down and Tuning In – Andrea gives a few pieces of advice on slowing down, quoting that “Your daily practices are your medicine.” She shares some great starter points you can use to begin slowing down and tuning in, such as taking a fresh look at what you’re doing, you on a daily basis, your daily routines, and what does your morning looks like.

Never Surrender a Day to an Excuse
UnYielded: Thriving No Matter What
09/08/21 • 52 min
Sometimes, in life, we might find ourselves stuck in destructive situations or behaviors, and the only way out is to realize that our habits and practices work against ourselves and take radical actions to turn our lives around. My guest today is someone who has survived through the trauma of losing loved ones to cancer, toxic relationships, unhealthy habits, and later transformed his life to achieve goals that seem impossible to many of us. David Richman, entrepreneur, author, speaker, athlete, and philanthropist, joins us today to share his wisdom.
David’s Story – We talk about David’s background, his work in writing, his most recent book and the long research that contributed to the book, and some of the monumental experiences he’s had throughout his life.
15 Stories – David interviewed lots of people who survived different aspects of the impacts of cancer and chose fifteen of the most inspiring stories for his book. David shares with us some of the key learnings from that experience of exploring how a cancer diagnosis impacts people’s lives.
Uncertainty and Fear – Cancer isn’t an illness that’s very predictive. It can pop up in our life unexpectedly and turn our lives upside down. And that can be extremely scary. David shares his thoughts on how this element of fear associated with cancer affects our emotional wellbeing and how to push through this fear.
Friends and Family – A common occurrence among people who go through cancer is their tendency of friends and loved ones walking away and disappearing. It’s not necessarily because they don’t care but because they don’t know how to talk about and what to say. We talk about the role communication plays in the lives of cancer survivors.
Overcoming Destructive Habits – Before becoming an athlete, David was a smoker and had problems with losing weight. We talk about the motivation behind the decision to take control of his life and becoming what he wanted to become and what he had to do to accomplish his goal.
