Hello everybody, and welcome to the first episode of Scorchio, our new series revisiting the football video games of the past. Every week, we'll be tearing down a different game and delivering the results to you. Apologies for the slightly rough and ready nature of this first episode, but it'll be improving over the coming weeks.
In this first episode, Edward and Ian relive Ian's childhood with the classic, pioneering football management simulator, Kevin Toms' Football Manager for the ZX Spectrum. How does the granddaddy of them all stack up against the competition, 38 years after it was first released? There's also a blow-by-blow account of a genuine Football Manager malaise as it happened, some heroic feats of memory and some complete failures: the Leeds United player was, it turns out, Peter Barnes. All this plus, the most underwhelming piece of trivia ever committed to record. We hope you enjoy it. You can support more stuff like this via Patreon.
Should you wish to play the game yourselves, you can do so right here.
And if you’re wondering about any other ways in which you can prevent us from wasting away and ultimately starving to death, we also still have our Redbubble shop, for the sartorially minded amongst you, and you can get more 200% podcasts on a variety of different subjects by joining us on Patreon. We even now have a Kofi button, so do feel free to feed me stimulants in order to keep me cracking on in a caffeine-fuelled state of delirium until four o’clock every morning, and many thanks to those of you who have already been generous enough to donate.
