A study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology in 2017 found that a plant-based diet was associated with a lower risk of coronary heart disease, whereas a diet high in animal products was associated with an increased risk. "Vegetarian diets and blood pressure: a meta-analysis" published in JAMA Internal Medicine in 2014 found that vegetarian diets were associated with lower blood pressure, which can lower the risk of heart disease and stroke. A systematic review published in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics in 2016 found that plant-based diets are effective for weight loss, improving lipid profiles, and reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes. "Vegetarian diets and incidence of diabetes in the Adventist Health Study-2" published in Nutrition, Metabolism and Cardiovascular Diseases in 2018 found that a plant-based diet was associated with a lower risk of type 2 diabetes compared to a non-vegetarian diet. "A plant-based diet, atherogenesis, and coronary artery disease prevention" published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology in 2015 found that a plant-based diet can help prevent and reverse atherosclerosis, a major contributor to heart disease.
