Del offers a cautionary tale about crossing the street in Florida.
Bucks discuss feedback on Valentin, Joel, Frank and more. Dave plugs Lessons from the Edge by Marie Yovanovich, which he is now reading.
Del is stumped as to why HBO would change their name to MAX. So are a lot of other people.
Del offers critical advice on how to take the cotton ball out of a jar of aspirin. Too much time on his hands? Maybe, but still a true story.
Dave lauds the Succession finale and lauds himself for having predicted the ending two seasons ago. Spoiler in this link but not in the podcast.
Del nods the antlers to a friend and loyal listener who had a nasty accident. Get well!
Dave gives some stars to Rainn Wilson and the Geography of Bliss. A kinder, gentler Anthony Bourdain sort of show.

Thanks to Leita for a fascinating story

143: Dave's Adventures in Norway
TWO OLD BUCKS
07/14/23 • 30 min
Dave flies from Brussels to Oslo via Helsinki and takes a train into town where he crashes at the hotel after a 9pm dinner. They didn't tell him a band was setting up and playing from 10 pm to 3 am, possibly outside his door. The next morning it is back to the train station for a 6.5 hour ride to Trondheim. Train ride was beautiful, gaining elevation to cross the mountain range and the back down to sea level in Trondheim.
From Trondheim, Dave boards the Hurtigruten Polarlys running up and down the coast. They pass the Arctic Circle and celebrate with hot rum and fish soup doled out by the captain, followed by ice water on the head ceremony the next morning.
During a stop at Bodø, Dave does an excursion that includes a stop at
Saltstraumen, the world's strongest tidal current.
The ship passes through Trollfjorden, a very narrow fjord. Amazing.
Dave disembarks after two nights at Tromsø, where the ship almost leaves with his luggage still onboard. He takes the Fjellheisen cable car for a spectacular view of the city.
A short flight takes Dave back to Bodø, where he finds the world's largest aluminum sailing ship docked. He does not get permission to come aboard.
There's more to come....

144: Dave Does Norway-Part 2
TWO OLD BUCKS
07/22/23 • 38 min
Met Marie, an interesting person who works at Nyt restaurant in Tromsø. Made us great omelets, talked about her life, her father who is an ethnic Sami [indigenous people], and lives in North Cape/ Nordkapp, the northernmost point of continental Europe.
Spectacular pizza at Casa Inferno in Tromsø. Definitely top three all-time.
Bodø [pop. 50,000] is where the U2 spy planes refueled.
Short flight to Svolvaer in the Lofoten Islands [pop. 4700]. Dave almost gets stuck at the airport. A kind woman saves the day. Three nights in Svolvaer, a kickoff place for sailing, climbing, kayaking, hiking. Did an evening sail with Captain Kenneth.
Got to Henningsvaer, an even smaller fishing village with a pop. of 470.
Flew to Bergen, a city of 470,000. Lush, lots of green space, rains 239 days a year. Yes, it rained on us every day but all was good. As a bartender told us, there is no bad weather, only bad clothes. Fortunately, we had good clothes.
Bergen's Kunstall had a temporary Edvard Munch exhibit.
Rode the Bergen-Oslo railway. Beautiful scenery, nice elevation gain, then we hit a moose and things went downhill in more ways than one..
At Radisson airport, sat next to a couple from Australia for dinner. Recognized us from the train station in Oslo. They were off to Spain to meet up with other friends. Good laughs.
Flew to Brussels with one night layover there, then Icelandair to Reykjavik and then on to JFK with 10 pm landing. NY cab drivers are not like the ones in Norway. Next day, home to Florida.
Dave brought COVID back with him. He doesn't like it.

Tahoe Toogee, featured in our last episode, was a huge hit. Folks want to hear more from Toogee. Who else knew a bear could decide how many cubs she would bear?
Dave announces an auction of the art collection of Jean-Luc Montois. Dave interviewed him in Episode 141. Take a look at his collection HERE. It is amazing.
Del recounts being a witness to a low speed fender bender that probably resulted in a total loss to one car and a quadrupling of the driver's insurance rates. Florida strikes again.
Del learns about Lemierre Syndrome, a rare disease among young people.
Bucks discuss Achilles tendon injuries of Aaron Rodgers and Andrew McCutchen [who is a Pirate, not a Steeler. Duh]. More on Achilles lore HERE.
Del moans as inflation hits the cigar world, forcing him to spend his money on actual food instead.
Dave mentions Walk the Blue Fields, a collection by Claire Keegan. 3 stars. Probably more if you space some time gaps between the stories. Last story the best.

Dave visits the USS Iowa battleship and museum in the port of LA. It's a BIG boat, lots of interesting things about it. Recommended five stars.
Dave navigates Topanga Canyon Road. Watch out for the road rage trucks.

Morro Bay-a lucky find. Worth another visit. https://share.icloud.com/photos/0e5m4gYLckKig9UYmAuucKbLA
Del bans Tik Tok. Good idea.
Cycling does not rid itself of drugs as 130 riders abandon race. Sad.
Dave ends the trip on a high note, visiting college roomie Bob and his wife Shane. Bob is famous for his ability to sleep anywhere anytime.
Bonus track for travelers.

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH THE REST OF YOUR LIFE?
12/18/22 • 34 min
Del continues to rally from his bout with covid. His sense of taste has still not returned. Does that make him tasteless?
Listeners seemed to enjoy last week's AI segment on bot-writing. We love to get those Letters From Afar so let us know what you think. As Del appears intrigued by GRAVITY, Dave had the bot create a prose poem of sorts on the subject. Here's what we got in four seconds:
Gravity is a force that binds us all together.
It is a force that is ever-present, yet often overlooked.
It is a force that keeps us grounded, and yet allows us to reach for the stars.
It is a force that can be both a blessing and a curse.
It can keep us safe and secure, but can also be a hindrance when we want to explore the unknown.
Gravity is a reminder that we are all connected, and that no matter how far we...
It won't win a Pulitzer but not bad for four seconds. Warning: it will only get smarter.
Del's beef with gravity is reflected in his naked posing in front of the bathroom mirror, clutching his pectorals and upon releasing them, watching gravity sag them toward the center of the earth. Talk bout tasteless! Sorry if this image is now burned into your brain. NFT available soon.

SBF, wunderfraudkid, asks to be let out of jail because he's Vegan. Seriously?
Speaking of frauds, Elon continues to snub Del, who aces today's Stump the Buck on he who shall not be named.
Dave learns about House Dancing at the Dentist office. You can learn here and then watch the experts here or try Dave's fave, shuffle dancing, here. The Bucks are furiously practicing to dance their way into 1977.
Dave reviews the book Brain Damage by Freida McFadden. He didn't love it but found it educational. Read another review here.

Dave visits Kennedy Space Center for the first time. Definitely with the trip, folks.
Eurobuck Paul went to Ukraine with British paratroopers to deliver much-needed supplies to the troops. We encourage you to send your tax-deductible donation to Remember Us, the American non-profit linked to Solidarite' Ukraine.

S3 Ep 3 [66]: Mattress warning, Bathing with hair dryers, What's a bee, Red and white don't mix, more
TWO OLD BUCKS
01/20/22 • 33 min
Del warns Dave-too late- about the hazards of handling a heavy mattress in a box.
JB from DC asks the Bucks if he should be worried about his wife asking what he wants his obituary to say. As usual, our advice is probably useless.
Rocky, an astute listener allegedly from Frostbite Falls, MN uses augury in a sentence. Buckworthy for sure. Rocky also recommends Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett. Most importantly, he notes that Del constantly interrupts Dave, causing Del to interrupt Dave's reading of Rocky's letter.
Why is it called a spelling BEE? We might know.
Del gets hypnotized by a tree, out of the visual analog of the TOB podcast. Of course, this reminds Dave of Del's dumpster diving for vacuum cleaners.
What is WORDLE? Dave explains. You'll like it.
Dave binges on Succession season three. Best thing on TV. WARNING- the linked video may not be suitable for your grandchildren.
