Thanks to Paul T. and Roland B. for organizing the two Ukraine-based episodes. Thanks to Lake Tahoe [can you do that?] for giving us Bridey, Toogee, and Bruce. Thanks to young Frank for taking such good notes.
Wishing you all a terrific 2024 and keep those cards and letters coming in.
We end the year with a touching bonus track from John Prine from his last album. Love the lyrics and the presentation. John could make you smile, too. We miss him.
Finally, for Donora...
HAPPY NEW YEAR

Del explains the proper way to lick a knife. Is any way the proper way? Don't try this at home.
Dave is unable to stump Del about the FTX debacle and SBF, the latest billionaire whiz kid who was not as smart as everyone thought he was. Caveat emptor. Bucks forecast this on June 9, 2021 episode [sort of]. Go back and listen, send us your thoughts.
Del ups the ante as he quizzes Dave about an unjustly labeled mythical creature that roams the Himalayas. Del would like to rename the abominable snowman the little hairy mountain fairy. Your thoughts?
Del ponders the meaning of Thanksgiving, turkey-eating, and whether a little man in a boat who has only smelly fish to eat is celebrating Thanksgiving. Dave uncovers a trend in southwest Pennsylvania to have frittatas instead of turkey.
Dave gives a book report on A Series of Fortunate Events: Chance and the Making of the Planet, Life, and You by Sean B. Carroll. Excellent opening on the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs and paved the way for the evolution of man. Middle gets a bit bogged down in genetics, base pairs, lucky and unlucky mutations; well-written but down the rabbit hole t time. Ending is an excellent compilation of quotes from various "famous people" that the author skillfully weaves into a discussion interview.
3.5 stars.

S2 Ep 46: The One Year Anniversary Cast, Weber redux, Bodies of water, Gunther III, Pivot
TWO OLD BUCKS
11/26/21 • 30 min
The TOBs celebrate their one-year anniversary and spare their listeners any sappy retrospectives, mainly because they can't remember much of what they talked about. But their loyal, hardworking staff reminded them that they've dropped 56 episodes for listeners in 24 countries. Meanwhile, the makers of Ambien are suing TOB LLC for a 42% drop in business since we launched our podcast.
Del provides a followup on his Weber grill disaster and what he learned. Pay attention here-no joke.
Del spells phytotelma--correctly, much to Dave's amazement. But he won't tell Dave what it means, challenging our listeners to send in the answer to: [email protected] Can Del be a closet genius? Dave thinks so. He might even be an augury. A what?
Then there's GuntherVI, a German shepherd dog who owns a $32 million mansion in- where else- Florida. Dave wonders if this is more fake news from Florida while Del has visions of an inter-species romance. Try not to visualize it.
Dave plugs another podcast-Pivot, hosted by Kara Swisher and Scott Galloway. Swisher is a seasoned tech journalist who can reportedly make Mark Zuckerburg sweat in his hoodie, which is good enough for Dave. Galloway is a prof at NYU, where he teaches graduate level marketing. Unlike the Bucks, they're really smart, giving their raw, unfiltered takes on tech, politics , and business. WARNING: DO NOT listen to them at bedtime. they will not put you to sleep.
The Bucks close the anniversary issue with a LFA from Normalville.

Watch the video version HERE.
Del describes living through Milton and the aftermath. Dave reads an excerpt from a note from his friend, Pete, who also sheltered in place. A lot of people are now reassessing what is important and what isn't. Many find comfort in the day-to-day routines.
Dave reads an excerpt from the essay Using Ritual to Find Meaning by Kevin Lawrence, who blogs under the pseudonym Ragged Clown. Read the entire essay as Dave didn't do it justice and tell us what you think. If you want to see a whole lot more of his writing, go to his Ragged Clown blog. You won't be disappointed.
Stump the Buck is back as Dave gives Del a toughie that he found on a short video clip somewhere out there. Send in your answer. First fifty correct answers win a TFT [totally fungible token] of Del's stovetop art. We'll give the correct answer in our next episode.
This week's bonus track is Pick Up the Pieces by Average White Band. Why? Because Dave saw the Scottish funk band live in Sarasota last night and they were spectacular. They've been doing this for over fifty years and this is their last tour, with ten cities to go. And they donated all their tee-shirt sales to Hurricance Milton victims.

Ranger Rick sent us some background info on Buckminster Fuller, who apparently invented a lot of words when he wasn’t designing geodesic homes or Dymaxions.

Bridey Thelen-Heidel, who you heard two weeks ago, just announced she has been selected to read her works on Listen to Your Mother, which is playing just a block off Broadway. Yes, the Big Apple! More great news for Bridey.

We got a voice message from VV#1, who explains to Del that the mer in mermaid is French, meaning sea. Mystery solved. Further, she gives him the bad news that TMB is already in use, meaning text me back. She suggests TMBS. You get the idea.
Dave stumps Del with an object that’s part of a larger object. The answer is the earth’s inner core. According to USA Today and other news outlets less rigorous than TOB, the core has stopped spinning and is reversing direction. This was a misunderstanding of a scientific article that said the rotation rate was slowing, which could shave up to one millisecond off our year.
A shout out to good friend Joel. Dave had breakfast with him today to wish him farewellas he sells his winter place in FL and is looking at the sunny CA desert as his new winter stomping grounds. Met him here in FL when he joined Dave’s writers’ group. It was clear early on that he was a more gifted writer than the rest of us. When that group broke up, he and I and our friend Laura [also at breakfast] met from time to time to critique each other’s work and have a never-ending lunch afterward. Dave calls Joel and Laura his adopted bro and sis. Good luck to you Joel, as you ride into the sunset. We’ll miss you
Sea Stories with Cap’n Jim
Dave met Jim a couple years ago and being an engineer, enjoyed his bridge-building stories. inevitably Jim would dredge up sailing and flying stories from his past that were far more interesting. Jim has promised to come back and share his stories with us.
Next week another amazing story about people helping Ukrainian refugees.
Closing music courtesy of Gabriel Records in Nashville. Pretty dazzling performance for a 9-year old playing from memory.

Alert Vixen Mimi finds Vintage Vixen jeans for sale. Our legal department is on the case, filing copyright infringement charges. We're coming for you, Bann's Boutique.
RIP Robbie Robertson, Canadian singer-songwriter extrordinaire with The Band. Music from Big Pink was a landmark album. Listen to The Weight from their documentary The Last Waltz. It doesn't get any better than this.
Several listeners claim to have seen aliens, know aliens or perhaps be aliens. Dave suggests trees may be aliens and then learns somebody else already thought the same thing.
Dave rents About My Father, unfortunately a very unfunny movie. Watch the trailer, it's better than the movie.
Del and Dave see Oppenheimer and both love it. Spectacular performances, so many shades of gray. Go see it!
Del leads Dave to believe he rides his bike naked. Not a visual you want to remember.
Dave offers a Public Service Announcement on the dangers of leaping before you look.
Looking ahead, our Tahoe writers, Bridey Thelen-Heidel [episode 118] and Bruce Rettig [episode 125] will be back soon to tell us what's happening in their worlds.
Frank Young [episiode 135] will also be back later this month to share some of his experiences from his career in USAID.
BONUS TIP: The Perseid meteor shower peaks this weekend.

Dave returns from his road trip of 3522 miles in one piece, a tired piece.

What is the correct A/C temp setting? Ask your spouse.
Captain Jim tells a story about buying buying cars at an auction and reselling them in Belize. There's a minor subplot involving drug smuggling...not by Jim.
Our bonus track is dedicated to Andy and Pizza, wherever they are. If you want more Warren, here he is.

Judith and Del discuss seeing US presidents Kennedy and Carter but Dave has not yet had a sighting. Listeners tell us where they were on November 22, 1963.

Tahoe Toogee, featured in our last episode, was a huge hit. Folks want to hear more from Toogee. Who else knew a bear could decide how many cubs she would bear?
Dave announces an auction of the art collection of Jean-Luc Montois. Dave interviewed him in Episode 141. Take a look at his collection HERE. It is amazing.
Del recounts being a witness to a low speed fender bender that probably resulted in a total loss to one car and a quadrupling of the driver's insurance rates. Florida strikes again.
Del learns about Lemierre Syndrome, a rare disease among young people.
Bucks discuss Achilles tendon injuries of Aaron Rodgers and Andrew McCutchen [who is a Pirate, not a Steeler. Duh]. More on Achilles lore HERE.
Del moans as inflation hits the cigar world, forcing him to spend his money on actual food instead.
Dave mentions Walk the Blue Fields, a collection by Claire Keegan. 3 stars. Probably more if you space some time gaps between the stories. Last story the best.
