True Crime Recaps - 3 Shocking Female Serial Killers
play

07/28/21 • 38 min

Female serial killers are rare, but that doesn't mean they're any less vicious. This week, Amy and Chris profile 3 of the most incredible cases involving serial killers of the fairer sex. In the first story, Chris details Delphine LaLaurie, who was a sadistic murderer and torturer from New Orleans. She was a wealthy and well-connected woman who carried out her horrible acts within the comfort of her Louisiana mansion. Most of her victims were slaves on her property, and she subjected them to burning, dismembering and many other atrocities. Her crimes were so sickening, a mob drove her out and she exiled herself to France. Information on her and her family after this time is very limited. The first female American serial killer, Belle Gunness, is often overshadowed by Aileen Wuornos, but Belle walked so Aileen could run. Belle was born in Norway and emigrated to the United States in 1881. Belle's victims were mostly wealthy men who she managed to lure onto her Indiana farm under the guise of sex, love and marriage. The exact amount of Belle's victims is unknown, but it could be as high as 40 people! Belle supposedly died in a fire, but many believe that she faked her death Danish serial killer Dagmar Overbye murdered as many as 25 children, including one of her own between 1913 and 1920. She is believed to the inspiration for the witch in the famous story "Hansel and Gretel." Dagmar opened up a daycare, which became a nearly endless supply of babies for her to kill in the most gruesome of fashions. Luckily for us, her death in prison is well-recorded. Finally, Amy brings you a bonus story about Leonarda Cianciulli, otherwise known The Soap-Maker of Correggio. But the soap she made had a secret and gruesome ingredient, human flesh. Leonarda somehow got it into her mind that her son needed spiritual protection as he was fighting in World War II. Her solution was to lure vulnerable women to her home where she killed, dismembered, and repurposed their body parts as soap, cakes and even clothing. NXIVM has spawned multiple documentaries and specials that recount the multitude of horrors that enigmatic leader Keith Raniere and former Smallville actress Allison Mack had perpetrated against its members. This week, Amy and Chris dive even deeper into this cult disguised as a self-improvement group. You'll hear exclusive recorded sessions, including the inception of the now infamous DOS group, and many other details of what went on behind closed doors. NXIVM lured hundreds of people with broad promises of improving their finances, intellect and other aspects of personal development. Whether or not it began with good intentions, it ultimately turned into sex slavery, encouraging eating disorders, branding people's skin, and much more. Allison Mack ran a subset of NXIVM where she lorded over many impressionable women to create a personal harem for their leader, who they referred to as Vanguard. Listen to the timeline of the various crimes committed by Keith and those around him, and how he was ultimately taken down. Send your true crime suggestions to hello@truecrimerecaps! True Crime Recaps - Three terrifying Amish murders
play

05/12/21 • 43 min

This week, Amy and Chris bring you three murders committed in the typically peaceful Amish community. The first is about Ed Gingerich, a mentally ill man who brutally murdered and disemboweled his wife Katie. Ed had frightened many people within his community before the murder due to his unhinged behavior, enough to the point that they resorted to calling 9-1-1. He was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and placed on medication, but he ultimately stopped taking it, which only made his state of mind worse. Ed was convicted of manslaughter and spent a little over 2 years in prison, despite community members pleading with authorities to keep Ed institutionalized. In the second case, Amy the killer Eli Stutzman, often known as a potential Amish serial killer. Eli was a closeted gay man living in an extremely devout Amish community. He was also a pathological liar, so the details of his life and whereabouts are difficult to verify. What is certain is that Eli became a person of interest after several murdered bodies were discovered that had connections to Eli, including his own son, Danny Stutzman, who he abandoned in a ditch. Finally, Chris details the story of the self-described "Amish Stud" Eli Weaver. Despite being married and having 5 children, Eli scoured the internet for women to sleep with, causing a lot of strife within his community. Eli's addiction to cheating ultimately became a horrific crime. Eli was able to convince his mistress, Barbara Raber, to shoot Eli's wife Barbara Weaver as she slept in their bed. Three women disappeared without a trace in Springfield, Missouri on June 7, 1992 and investigators have been baffled ever since. This week, Amy and Chris detail all of the evidence left behind and explain why there have been many leads, but no prime suspect after several decades. Suzanne "Suzie" Streeter, Stacy McCall, and Sherrill Levitt went missing from Sherrill's home one afternoon. There have been a few supposed sightings of the women with strange men in various vehicles and investigators even attempted to use a psychic to communicate with the dog left behind in the home, but not much has come from it. Despite everyone's best efforts, there hasn't been a sighting or new clue in years. Not even remains have been discovered, so will this case ever be solved? It just might with the help of the public. True Crime Recaps - Who Killed Chandra Levy?

Who Killed Chandra Levy?

True Crime Recaps

play

11/17/21 • 38 min

In 2001, the Chandra Levy case captured the entire nation and brought lots of unwanted attention on congressman Gary Condit, which many believed to be responsible for Chandra's disappearance. Even though it's been 2 decades since we first heard of Chandra's mysterious vanishing, Amy and Chris bring you recent developments in the case, as well as catch you up with everything you need to know. Here's some background, Chandra Levy was a Washington D.C. intern who disappeared in May 2001. After her disappearance, her affair with Gary Condit came to light, and he became public enemy number one, even costing him re-election in 2002. As investigation continued, another suspect, an El Salvadorian immigrant Ingmar Guandique, came to light and was even taken to trial and sentenced for the crime. So case closed right? Well, the charges against Ingmar were dropped in 2015, and he was ultimately deported in 2017. So in an official sense, Chandra's case remains unsolved, but was the true murderer actually let go?
