Treading Lightly Podcast
Dean Howcroft, Monica Mudge & Jimmy Woodriff
Treading lightly was formed with the intention of bringing like-minded people together to care about the environment and the wellbeing of our community. We also explicitly want to bring those along that want to tread more lightly on our planet but are not quite sure how to just yet.
Treading Lightly is all about being inclusive and supportive. We strongly believe that together we can achieve real solutions and improve our communities and the world at large. By uplifting each other, we raise the vibration, uplift our communities and improve our own quality of life at the same time. We believe that’s how you create long-lasting positive change.

EP26 The Milton Ulladulla Small School
Treading Lightly Podcast
11/02/20 • 74 min
School. Who can say they enjoyed every moment of it?
I don’t know man kids who are thrilled to be going to school. What is it that makes it such a drag and does it have to be that way?
In an ever-changing world and with an unprecedented challenge that school age kids and parents alike have to deal with these days with social media and other technology, maybe there’s a different way of educating our youth that’s worth exploring?
In this episode, we have local practitioners Peter Anderson, a chiropractor, and his wife Wan Yi Ng a GP, come on to talk about the ambitious project they’ve embarked on. They’re in the process of developing the Milton Ulladulla Small School, a small community-based school right here in our area. It's an alternative to the mainstream primary school education system along the lines of Montessori or green schools but it won't be under any particular one umbrella.
I find it fascinating that these two academics who have obviously spent many years in the education system believe that there is a better way we can be teaching our youth, but also inspiring that they're backing themselves so much in what they believe in to offer this alternative school to our community.
If you would like to show your support or express your interest, please reach out to Peter and Wan Yi. All details below.
And here’s some links to other similar schools that were mentioned in the chat!

#EP1 Leading the Fight for the Bight charge with Damien Cole and Heath Joske
Treading Lightly Podcast
11/19/19 • 72 min
Damo and Heath are two absolute legends who have aligned themselves with Patagonia AUS and are spearheading Fight for The Bight, a movement to stop Norwegian company Equinors plans to drill for oil in the Great Australian Bight, home to one of the most stunning marine environments in the world. We discuss why Equinors plans are too risky and threaten Australian coastal communities, economies, livelihoods and our pristine marine environment.
Both have stepped up to the plate in a big way. Heath flew to Norway to attend the Equinor AGM with petitions and a speech to make it clear just how much the Australian surf community is against this. Damo has run for parliament as an independent purely driven by a want for change and is pure dynamite in rallying communities across the country to get involved with Australia's national day of action on NOV 23 2019 with a joint paddle out and hands across the sand for "FIGHT FOR THE BIGHT"
Fight for the Bight North Mollymook 23 NOV 730am.
We urge you all to get out on the beach, in the water, show your face and be the change!!!
It contains language that may be offensive to some.

EP31 Gini Eagle author of Awaken
Treading Lightly Podcast
08/09/21 • 73 min
It took 3 months to release this episode!
We originally recorded this episode way back in June and since then I've been in a little bit of "filling my own cup" mode, spending extra time with the kids, getting into nature, and slowly digesting what's going down in the world...which is a good reminder to all to monitor where your energy going and focus on keeping your VIBES UP!
But after having another listen, it has so many gems of wisdom appropriate for the times we find ourselves in!
Gini is a qualified Reiki Master, social worker, yoga, and meditation teacher with more than 20 years of experience and came on to share her story and journey of awakening.
We also discussed her book ‘Awaken – A Simple Guidebook to Empowerment’ which includes the tools and techniques she discovered on her journey and how she was called to write the book and share her and others' stories, to help those on the journey to empowerment.
She facilitates courses based on her book, as well as unique nature-based reiki courses and personal empowerment programs.
If you enjoy this episode please remember to like and share.

EP27 Kurt Nyholm from AKWA Surf
Treading Lightly Podcast
03/25/21 • 69 min
Welcome back tribe!
So good to be back speaking with inspirational people again after a little break from podcasting. Big things have been happening in the background of Treading Lightly, the main one being the opening of our new headquarters or the TLHub as it's been affectionately nicknamed. A place where like-minded individuals can collaborate, brainstorm new ideas, and initiate plans to really make a difference in what even project is going down! Big thanks to all those who contributed to making the Hub happen!
Today's guest is someone who was on top of the list when we were brainstorming the podcast so it's a privilege to finally have him on. Kurt co-owns AKWA surf here in Milton and is part of the board riders club. He's been involved with many charitable events in our town and came on today to spread awareness of the latest charity event.
SurfAid's mission is to improve the health, wellbeing, and resilience of families living in isolated regions connected to us through surfing. As surfers, we get to go and surf perfect waves that may be situated in remote areas of Indonesia and other countries. Most locals don't see the tourist revenues that should be going back into those very communities.
In Indonesia, a mother dies in childbirth every three hours and 20 babies die every hour. Half of these babies are less than one month old. In remote areas, these figures are worse.
All money raised goes to Surfaid https://surfaid.org/
There's a total of $12,000 worth of prizes - including a 10-Day Mentawai Surf Trip valued at $4,300 so get involved!
The Milton Mollymook Ulladulla SurfAid Team Raffle will be drawn on Sunday, 28 March 2021 at 4:00 PM so you need to get in quick if you'd like to contribute.

EP37 Logging in Brooman State Forest
Treading Lightly Podcast
07/05/22 • 46 min
Please sign the petition below
Do you know there is logging happening in our Brooman State Forest?
Most people are completely unaware of what's happening to our forests, that existing logging cannot continue, and that post fire logging presents a risk of "serious or irreversible harm" to native forests.
We had a great panel of guest speakers to discuss the issue from their experiences and point of view.
Takesa Frank is a NSW Young Greens SDC Coordinator and Indigenous Officer and UOW Young Greens President. She is a young go-getter that has devoted so much of herself to this cause.
Rhian Macpherson is a local of the area whose property is right next to the devastation that is occurring and is the eyes on the ground.
Last but not least we had Independent NSW MP Justin Field who has worked hard to gain support from the government officials to halt logging and shared a lot of hard facts.
"Our forests are being destroyed for what; firewood; woodchips; to be shipped overseas. The same forest that was devastatingly burnt in the 2019/2020 summer fires where iconic species like the koala, swift parrot, and greater glider are being pushed towards extinction."- Takesa Frank
Our hope is that more local awareness around the issue will create more pressure on the government to actually act and listen to the will of the people so please help spread the message by sharing this episode with your friends and family.

It's Bowel Cancer awareness month so absolutely fitting to have Anta on to share his story and give advice from what he's learned along the way.
