How to Build Your Career Development Plan Step by Step
Tips for Work and Life with Andrew LaCivita
02/13/24 • 67 min
I spent every single day between December 3rd, 2022 and May 30th, 2023 working on something that really matters me—writing a book that’ll help you achieve a level of career attainment and satisfaction that matches your abilities.
Of course, you didn’t know I was doing that. And, you won’t be able to hold my little beauty until August 6, 2024. (You can, however, pre-order it here!)
Even so, that doesn’t mean we can’t do some sneak previewing between now and then.
See, my two least favorite words in any language are “unrealized potential.”
It literally hurt me to type them.
The sad fact is most people (at least most I’ve ever met) spend their entire careers in jobs well below their talent level.
Might you be?
Why do you think this is?
My opinion is “professional growth” is a maze. Honestly.
Have you ever felt lost, unsure of which skills to prioritize, or how to chart your career path effectively?
These are common challenges many people face, resulting in unrealized potential (ouch, again) and missed opportunities.
In our professional, that is, post-academic world, traditional guidance is scarce and we’re left to figure it out on our own.
It’s helpful to have an experienced professor-like mentor who comes equipped with a structured syllabus of the most-impactful professional skills and sequenced lessons to help you navigate the intricacies of career development.
One that can help you craft and implement your personalized, effective, strategic career growth plan. (This would be moi if that wasn’t obvi.)
Pause for a second. Humor me. Can you imagine a future where your career aligns perfectly with your abilities? One where you consistently achieve success and satisfaction?
Like virtually everything in our world today, it’s only a click away...

LinkedIn Tips for Job Seekers That Attract Recruiters | An Inside Look
Tips for Work and Life with Andrew LaCivita
06/11/24 • 23 min
Do you wish your LinkedIn inbox was flooded with messages from recruiters fawning all over you?
Would you settle for a few each week?
Seeing nothing?
Well, you need to know what drives them to you.
I might not know how to get the YouTube algorithm to send people my way, but I do know how recruiters filter their LinkedIn searches.
I know that because we had corporate and executive recruiters show us their dashboards and walk us through their processes as we built our latest rendition of the milewalk Academy® LinkedIn Workshop.
I also know what job seekers can do to get those filters to choose them and that’s what I’m sharing today.

3 Factors of High Performers
Tips for Work and Life with Andrew LaCivita
12/31/24 • 13 min
Got a special, powerful message for you today.
I discussed this concept back in August (on the 8th), but held it so we can wrap 2024 with a bang and get you pumped for all you WILL accomplish in 2025.
It’s a lesson on the 3 factors of high performers.
This isn't your run-of-the-mill pep talk—it's a masterclass on harnessing your mindset to fuel success and resilience.
Inside, I hit...
Attitude as a Catalyst: Attitude shapes not just your experiences but also inspires those around you. It's about manufacturing optimism from within and letting that optimism ignite inspiration in others.
The Power of Passion, Vision, and Commitment: These three pillars are what all (truly) successful individuals share. It's about discovering your passion, nurturing it, and committing to your vision relentlessly. (BTW, these are not the 3 factors of high performers I mention in the title.)
Framing and Priming: Understand the art of framing your thoughts and priming your emotions to align with your goals. It's about the internal dialogue you feed yourself—ditch the “fake it ‘til you make it” mindset and embrace authenticity.
Crafting Your Success Story: I share personal stories, including my journey from engineering student to executive recruitment, and how I built a successful career coaching business. The story is a testament to the power of strategic vision and unwavering commitment.
The lesson is about empowering you to conquer challenges and achieve your impossible (just like I say in Out of Reach but in Sight!).
Here’s to making 2025 your best year yet!

Is It Better to Switch Jobs or Stay at the Same Company?
Tips for Work and Life with Andrew LaCivita
05/02/23 • 9 min
Got asked a great question a few weeks back at Live Office Hours.
The person asked if he should stay at his company or transition every 3-4 years.
He has aspirations of being a CEO at some point in the future and was wondering whether the variety or longevity would better position him.
Have you ever wondered this?
You might be thinking, well, Andy, I just need a job. This is moot at the moment.
Or, hey, Andy, you’re a mind-reader!
Well, what do I often say?
“Your trajectory matters much more than where you are at any moment in time [...] any moment in time is just that. It’s over in an instant.”
You will eventually be faced with a scenario like this.
And, even if it’s just a matter of changing jobs, you’ll benefit from the philosophy, whys, wherefores, whats, and how-to-thinks in today’s video clip.
Take in at your leisure so you can stay on that not-so-leisurely, skyrocket-like trajectory!

How to Make Your Résumé Standout in 2023!
Tips for Work and Life with Andrew LaCivita
01/17/23 • 58 min
It’s January, which translates to high recruitment season. That means employers are interviewing candidates like crazy.
Even so, it’s not exactly like shooting fish in a barrel if your résumé isn’t up to snuff.
No matter what month or year it is, you need to put a killer résumé together to not only show potential employers the value you can contribute, but also set the best table for yourself when you get into the interview.
What do I always say?
“Whenever you set out to do something, plan to win.”
Winning in this case means you’re going to get the interview AND job offer.
The problem is most job candidates don’t think this many moves down the pipe.
They hope for an interview.
They hope they’ll do well when they get into the interview.
They don’t concentrate on planting all the seeds throughout the entire interviewing process to ensure they have the most leverage when they actually receive the job offer.
Well, today, you’re in luck because I’ve got a spectrum of goodies that cover how to make your résumé standout by putting in it exactly what employers want to know.
Because I’m so confident they want to know this, I’m certain they’ll ask you about it in the interview.
That’s why I’m not only going to show you what goes into the résumé as it relates to your bullet points, but also how to turn those bullets into interview stories.
I even have a case study in there for you!
Join me for today’s podcast how to make your résumé stand out and interview stories shine in 2023!

You Have a Lot to Offer this World | Perspective is Everything
Tips for Work and Life with Andrew LaCivita
12/23/22 • 5 min
If I didn’t know better, I’d think it was hardwired at birth.
...an inability to see our true impact.
...those wonderful ripples and echoes we make every minute of every day...that affect far more people than we’ll ever know.
Where does this myopia come from?
Probably a lack of perspective to start and a host of other bandits constantly stealing it whenever we do get some.
I’m not entirely sure, but here’s what I do know.
YOU matter more than you think you do.
No matter your age, occupation, or family life.
There are people out there who need you. They rely on you.
They need you to do whatever it is you do day in and day out.
They need you to do what you ache to do.
They need you big time.
The title of this week’s podcast pretty much says it all. You have a lot to offer this world. Perspective is everything.

Tips for Work and Life with Andrew LaCivita

Is it détente or mutual destruction?
I’m not sure, but AI will change the game for employers and employees, especially in the hiring process.
Someone asked me a few weeks ago about my thoughts on the recent Wall Street Journal article titled You’re Fighting AI with AI: Bots Are Breaking the Hiring Process.
Here’s what I had to say.
I hope, as always, it positions YOU best to succeed!
