Tigers in 20: A Memphis Tigers Athletics podcast

Welcome to the inaugural episode of Tigers on Tap. Your hosts, TJ Willis and Trey Lasley, introduce the podcast and the beers they have chosen to taste for this episode.

In the first segment, Trey and TJ break down what they were hoping to see in the 2022 Tiger football team during the Friday Night Stripes game. They discussed the addition of the two new coordinators and their impact on the way the offense and defensive schemes looked. Trey and TJ spent a few minutes breaking down the quarterback competition. Trey was incredibly impressed with Tevin Carter and his arm strength, but they broke down who they believe is going to come out on top in the quarterback competition: Seth Henigan or Grant Gunnell.

They transition to talking about the running backs and how they believe the running back role will be a filled by committee this year. TJ was pleasantly surprised by a few plays by returning RB Dreke Clark coming out of the backfield and making catches. TJ mentioned the wide receiver corp and how disappointed he was with the consistency during the game.

In the second segment, TJ and Trey highlighted the fact that the Tiger defense has switched back to a 4-man front and how Tiger fans will be excited to see the pressure the defense will bring to opponents this year. Trey shares how excited he is by the linebacker group this year, and how he believes they will be one of the more effective parts of the defensive this year. Trey mentions that he believes Greg Rubin is going to take a big leap from an already successful freshman campaign.

Trey and TJ end the football portion of this podcast talking about what they were the most pleasantly surprised by and they both were in agreement that the special teams was the most disappointing part of the spring game and how scared they are that the special teams could lose games for the Tigers this year.

The guys then transition to the massive news that transfer guard Kendric Davis signed with the Tigers on Friday night. TJ believes that the signing of Kendric Davis is Penny Hardaway's best job as a recruiter since he's been at Memphis.

Ti20 Off the Boards- Cam Jackson Interview

In this latest installment of Off the Boards, redshirt sophomore Cam'Ron Jackson joined Kenny Stubblefield and discussed his breakthrough season in 2021 and the expectations that he has placed on himself for the 2022 season. Cam spoke about growing up in the small town of Haynesville in northern Louisiana and playing for Haynesville High School. Haynesville High School, while in a small city of 2,000 people, has won 17 state titles in it's history, which ranks as the second most in all of Louisiana high schools. Cam shared about how the city developed players from a young age and how playing for Haynesville High School was a dream come true.

Cam then explained his recruitment and how Coach Pope played a massive role in his decision to come to Memphis over strong interest from LSU and Alabama.

In January, 2022, Cam entered the transfer portal for a short time, and he explained what went into that decision and also shared why he ultimately decided that Memphis was the place for him. He went into great detail on how Coach Pope, his mom and even senior DB Quindell Johnson played a role in changing his mind.

In the second segment, Cam discusses how the defensive line has been unleashed with Matt Barnes as the new defensive coordinator. He walks us through what Tiger fans can expect from the Tigers' defensive line this year, and how excited he is about the depth the Tigers have at that position.

Cam finishes out the episode talking about the games he is most excited to play this year, and which Memphis BBQ spot is his favorite place to eat.
