On today's episode Katie and Sean open with the extremely BS bodycam footage of the Alameda County Sheriff who assaulted Raptors President Masai Ujiri. They.move onto the Playoffs — the Playoffs! — and how much the Bubble seems to have livened things up, the fate of the 1st seeds, the triumph of the 8th seeds and the fate of The Process. Sean gets his heart's wish in another Mascot Theory segment, this time on Robin Lopez missing mascots while in the bubble, and they end by ranking Draft Lottery recipients and their official representatives. Sean really loves the Draft Lottery.

Uhh, Basketball? - Mascots Are the Opiates of the Masses

04/22/21 • 59 min

This week Katie and Sean reflect on the last 11 months of NBA activism in the wake of the guilty verdict in the George Floyd Murder Trial before pivoting into a Knicks-heavy back three quarters of the show. They chat about the Knicks' surprising 8-game winning streak and why they are such a fun story in a season with so few of those going on. In another round of Mascot Theory, Sean and Katie dig into the Knicks' notable lack of a mascot, the reasons why they don't have one, and some options if they were to join the right side of history and introduce one. Lastly, in The Segment We're Trying This Week, Sean throws Katie a series of quotes from James Dolan and Doug Ford, and Katie is forced to answer the age old question: is it Dolan or Doug? They also close things outs with their Posters of the Week as per usual.

This week Sean Woodley and Katie Heindl chat about their new biggest fan, The Great Canadian Baking Show, before diving into the steady stream of news coming out of the freshly-opened NBA bubble at Disney. They discuss room tours, players partaking in dangerous hotel behaviour, and what's on the bubble's menu before addressing the less-than inspiring list of approved social justice messages that players have the option of wearing on their jerseys. Next they're joined by Lindsay Gibbs (Power Plays, the Burn It All Down podcast) to chat about the WNBA's bubble in Bradenton, Florida, early returns on the quality of the accommodations, which on-court storylines are the most exciting heading into the season, and the ongoing controversy with Atlanta Dream part-owner, Sen. Kelly Loeffler, who is a very bad person. They wrap up the show with a new segment they're trying out this week called Sean Marks Simulator, where Katie and Sean each attempt to fill out the remainder of the decimated Brooklyn Nets roster. All that, plus their Isolators / Posters / Instagrammers of the Week!

This week Sean and Katie begin by wondering which Disney character Rasheed Wallace likes the most before diving into the many questions they have with the NBA's return to play plan. They address Kyrie Irving leading a group of players who believe the NBA's return will distract from the ongoing, nationwide social justice movement, as well as some of the more intelligent counters to their arguments. Next they address the NBA's 113-page return protocol and some of its more bizarre stipulations, including the noted lack of doubles ping pong and potential hijinks the hotel arrangements could incite. Lastly they take a trip to robotics camp with mechanical whiz Jarrett Allen and hand out their isolators of the week.

This week Sean and Katie talk all about LeBron James and the sad state of his tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers. They dig into how the last few seasons have or have not altered his legacy, different pathways LeBron's career could have taken had he opted not to sign with the Lakers in 2018, and what lies ahead as he shifts into accolade-chasing mode. Then, inspired by LeBron's malicious whipping of a ball at the cherub Scottie Barnes on Monday, Sean and Katie try to imagine who LeBron was actually envisioning when he cocked back that throw. All that, plus the Posters of the Week, Rasheed Wallace's yogurt eating habits and more!

This week the NBA is on fire, and Sean and Katie discuss. They kick things off with a look at the rash of injury news that hit the timeline on Wednesday morning, which was then followed by a pair of coach firings in New Orleans and Washington as well as a dubious departure in Dallas after reports of their franchise being taken over by a crypto loving gambling freak. Next they talk about the games -- including the wild Hawks comeback against the Sixers in Game 5, KD's brilliant performance to put the Nets up 3-2 on the Bucks, and the Clippers-Jazz series which is playing out under a cloud of injury-related doom. In the Segment We're Trying Out This Week, it's a return of an old fav as Sean and Katie attempt to pair NBA teams with classic songs about being on fire. All that, plus Sheed, Posters of the Week and more!

This week, Katie and Sean kick things off with a discussion of which whales Rasheed Wallace likes the most before diving into the growing list of issues with the NBA's Disney World bubble plan, including the locking in of media members and the possibility of needing replacement players to fill roster spots. Next they chat about the inspiring work being done by the NBA's players amid the current social movement, with LeBron James' support of Black voters' rights leading the way. They also chat about the gross trend of body shaming NBA players that may or may not be out of shape. To close out the show they discuss Michael Jordan's successful fishing trip before giving out their Instagrammers of the Week.
